CEBU CITY (Updated) -- The Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI), organizer of the Sinulog festival activities, lost more than P1.6 million to burglars a day after the grand parade on Sunday.
The 1.6 million cash, which was forcibly taken, was placed inside a vault at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) office.

The SFI initially reported that it lost only close to a million pesos but after the awarding ceremonies Monday afternoon, it was found out that the P757,000 allotted for the performers of the Sinulog grand finale was also placed inside the vault.
SFI Executive Director Ricky Ballesteros said ticket sales of the CCSC, cash incentive for one of the staff of the SFI, a camera and the P757,000 talent fee were among those carted off by the burglars.
The suspects, who used a cutter to open the vault, also took the P11,000 and $30 collected during the Sunday mass at the CCSC.
Ballesteros said a security guard was detailed to guard the CCSC, but it was the person tasked to clean the office who discovered the burglary around 7 a.m. Monday.
The security guard was reportedly at the Media Center, which was just across the CCSC office, when the incident happened.
Initial investigation showed the last person punched out of the office around 2 a.m. Monday and the first person to arrive punched in around 4 a.m.
Ballesteros said there are only two people who have access to the vault, but most of the personnel of the SFI and CCSC are aware that the money is kept in the vault.
Cebu City Mayor and SFI chairman Michael Rama immediately ordered Cebu City police chief Ramon Melvin Buenafe to conduct a deeper probe into the incident.
Ballesteros said he wanted the office security guard included in the investigation. (Sunnex)
