t.w. is for table wine, the cheaper kind of wine... while d.o. stands for an italian standard, Denominazione d' Origine--a certificate of geographical origin that identifies the wine and had strict quality standards for wine production. D.O. is the more expensive kind of wine...

I believed the DO is more expensive because of the grapes used . The grapes are sun rippened in a cold environment in the mountains popularized by the island off the coast of Italy , forgot the name .
