dont place your aquarium anywhere near sunlight. if fresh water, try getting a pleco and water change regularly.

With regards to hugaw, a filter will do, esp sponge types. Naay murag locally produced chemical similar sa Tetra Easy balance that promises no more water changes (kita ko ana sa riverfront, juz ask the owner, i think one of the tanks there had a label that sez water has not been changed since x weeks ago). I think its main purpose is to convert/oxidize nitrates to release the nitrogen into the atmosphere whereby completing the nitrogen cycle. This eliminates the inevitable nitrate buildup that forces us to change water. I personally dont think this is necessary in a planted tank since the nitrate cycle is completed on its own and a lot faster.
