Default Are guns protecting us or killing us?

This is just a thought that I would like to express here and I would also like to ask for everyone's opinion on this. It's been brought to light that recently there are major crimes happening with regard to possession of firearms. An example is the shooting at SM Pampanga, another is the hostage crisis wherein even a mayor was involved in the negotiations. Another example is the story on a politician's bodyguards carrying firearms in their vehicle, while the politician is in another country.

It seems that although guns are purchased and carried to protect lives, it's used more for crime. For the people who do not possess any firearm, how are they to protect themselves when they encounter someone who is determined to harm another person with an illegally or even legally obtained gun?

What are your thoughts on this? Are guns protecting us, or a danger to us? Should guns be banned completely so no one, not even politicians or security personnel can carry one? Would that make the country safer?

Mao jud bai. Plus mag huwat man pud ang systema nga naay bati mahintabo before mu aksyon. Pero lisud man nuon mag anticipate ug mga krimen.

Thus, the debate whether a machine designed to inflict harm can be used to protect. Like how a Swiss Army knife can be used to stab a person, or to open a bottle of beer. This is going to get interesting.

ngipon ra sa balaod ang kuwang ani sa giingon na ni @nakaigo. A gun can be used in good or bad ways.
