i was lucky to own and raise RBP back in davao 10 years ago. i believe i got the fry at 500 per piece before back in college, out of 11 that i bought only six reached to maturity sadly the worst mistake i made was transferring them from the aquarium to my home made pond killed them. very beautiful fish, contrary to popular culture. piranhas are not that aggressive, we have the media to blame for that.

mainly the reason why it was illegal because of the risk on having these fishes being introduce in our local wildlife and decimating the endemic fish stock. like what happened with the notorious janitor fish. tilapias.guppys. carp etc.

i think there was a news 8 years ago that a shipment of piranha fingerlings thousands! smuggled from hongkong to the philippines was confiscated and destroyed.

@tonioyantao hahah wow you own RBP that was great. i wanted to own a black piranha but it's illegal in here so there is nothing we can do about it and piranhas and pacus are look alike maybe ill try black pacu hahaha

red pacu nlng... or try mu uban monster fishes... mga alligator gar, catfish ug ang idol na arapaima... medyo mahal pero sulit kung fish lover lng ka... nindot kaau tan-awn imung tank nga monster fish ang mga sulod..
