Dont mean to upset Iphone 4S users (or would be users) out there... but there are a log of complains already with the shortness in the battery life of the Iphone 4S..

The original iPhone 4 stumbled out of the gate with an infamous antenna issue that left many users very disappointed. And while the problem was eventually resolved in a modified housing that carried forward to the recently released iPhone 4S, the latest model seems to be suffering from its own serious performance issue.

Battery life. Whether or not it's fixable with a software patch, special trick, or voodoo incantation, one thing is for sure: It's a problem.
In a thread titled 'iPhone 4s Battery Life?' on Apple's official support forums, there are already thousands of posts with unofficial test results and theories as to why the iPhone 4S's battery life isn't up to snuff. And there are more than 100,000 views from users trying to find an answer. It seems like not even Apple knows what's going on just yet.

A couple of days ago we reported on a story in The Guardian that Apple's senior engineers had been contacting users complaining about battery life issues. One user in particular had found their iPhone 4S battery draining in excess of ten percent every hour, even when in standby mode with features like Siri and location services completely deactivated. And after asking them detailed questions about their usage, an Apple engineer had them sync and install a special file that would presumably provide more details about the problem.

But at the moment there is no official solution, no definitive answer, and no word from Apple as to why it's happening—or when a fix might be on the way. Just speculation as to what might be the cause and reports on how bad it is. Over in the MacRumors forums, one user reported a dead phone four hours after going to sleep with at least 60-percent battery life remaining.

Since the release of the iPhone 4S, some users have been complaining about poor battery life. Even with Apple having quietly reduced the standby battery life from 300 hours on the iPhone 4 to 200 hours on the iPhone 4S, active-use battery life for the iPhone 4S was supposed to remain the same or better than on the iPhone 4. But some users are indeed seeing rapid battery drains, both while in active use and in standby, suggesting that some sort of background task is sapping the device's battery under certain circumstances, according to The Guardian.


One user in particular noted a battery drain of 10% per hour even in standby mode. The user was able to replicate the issue with all features such as Siri and location services turned off, and even on a relatively clean phone with no apps installed, hinting that the battery drain was coming from a core functionality on the device. The user does report, however, that Apple has reached out in an attempt to research the issue, asking to install system monitoring software on the device to help figure out what is going wrong.
"I then got a call from a senior [Apple] engineer who said he had read my post and was 'reaching out' to users for data and admitted this was an issue (and that they aren't close to finding a fix!) and asked lots of questions about my usage and then asked if he could install the file below and that he would call back the day after to retrieve the info. I extracted the file from my Mac after a sync and emailed it to him. He was incredibly helpful and apologetic in the typical Apple way!"
Apple has yet to offer an explanation for the battery life issue, but anecdotal reports suggest that corrupted contacts may be responsible. Some users have reported that a backup and restore through iTunes can help, but until Apple offers an official solution those affected by the issue may need to experiment with various solutions.

As I was reading the same site that has an article out on this .... There's an article saying that 5.0.1 is not solving battery problem , and some say its making it worse.

I updated mine. I dont really have a battery problem at all. I charge my phone usually every two days.

Well certainly one reason on latter , but apple would know that thus making sure battery life is better than the drain on Ios 5. Flank can u give us more info on 5.o.1

Usage:
apps , browsing , calls , 3g etc - is it draining slower now that you've updated?

yup its draining slowly i thinkthan before.

To be honest i dont really mind about the battery life as i always bring portable charger.
