Benetton has always been known for its thought-provoking ads for the past few years now. if you go by their shops in the malls, or watch some of their ads on TV (and youtube), they have been quite consistent in forwarding the envelope and dishing out talk of the town images.
this, of course, is a marketing strategy, which i think risks a backlash if it fails; and some of its previous campaigns have failed a number of times.
an example was the ad poster below in 2006 which critics said resembled too much to how white policemen cuffed black suspects.
