The Z68 vs X79 Debate

It seems many people in the forums, assume X79 is going to have 20-50% more improvement in terms of gaming performance... and prices are cheaper then current Z68 Sandy Bridge Processors? ... really?

Lets start with~

Pricing
Do you know there is going to be only 2 Processors released this year for the X79?
Core i7 3930K = $555 US Dollars = 23865 Pesos.
Core i7 Extreme 3960X = $990 US Dollars = 42570 Pesos.

Comparing the above prices to the current Z68 Processors, its really on another Category. Way more expensive.


Gaming
Do you know there is no difference in Gaming Performance when Intel i7 2600k($317) squares off with Core i7 Extreme 3960X($990) in gaming? Making Core i7 3930K($555) unworthy.

Application's
Core i7 Extreme 3960X performs better than Intel Core i7 2600k on applications, i have to hand it to intel on this one, the CineBench result is awesome. Then again how many of you are going to run this program ? or just go gaming like everyone else? play Battlefield 3, Elder's Scroll V: Skyrim or another game.

We have Power Consumption, at idle the i7 3960X uses 97.4 watts of power versus 2600K's consumption of 68.9. Under full load, the i7 3960X consumes 277.7 watts versus 2600K's 169.9.

for the price that it is giving and giving the notation that is the next generation it doesnt really move up to the standards of what its earlier generation i7 is performing :S i guess intel and amd failed big time on the new processors

We only care about processor in our games. I just hope there are dev's out that there will use the full potential of these processors. This will convince a lot of people to buy these overkill processors.
I mean look at how the people at PS3 devs maximizing the performance of a cell processor.

that basically depends on what is your stand point but having a product that will only give limited pros and majority of the engines are similar to games then it would not really be good for them since processors are made by all genres of types of users.

never liked the "X" platforms with triple/quad channel support anyway as they are all power hungry... yeah they may be more powerful but for me it ain't worth it.

Never been a fan of uber high end procs/sockets too.. If i remember it right, there was not really much difference between P35 and X38, P45 and X48, P55 and Q57 (which was basically a failure). These product lines are only targeted to enthusiast who have their brains down in their crotch..
