Ateneo plays good fundamental basketball but none of it's players had the
Talent to win big games, theres the heart but on the end talent always prevail, especially the coach samok sge og substitute sa players ma momentum ang player ilisan dayon.

sacred has the talents and skills. but uv has both nya season napud kaayo more likely anad ug duwa sa gawas bah street style bah. dapat mu duwa gyud mga tiguwang and physical ang ateneo para mas season na sila nig duwa ug cesafi.

To be fair to the players, they had it coming to them as their coach made 3 crucial mistakes.
- failing to call a time out during the run made by UV (8min - 6min mark) thereby erasing what was once a 10pt bubble.
- failed to make defensive adjustments after UV equalized
- questionable substitutions, on the last 20sec wherein UV was leading by a point and a player was on the line for a bunch of freebies, he failed to place his top rebounder/big man in Cadavis in the game.

I think these 3 mistakes cost SHS-AdC the game and the series. As what @JUPASKO said, its entirely a different level and maybe they should look into some coaching change after two bridesmaid finishes.

The what ifs, what could have been, what should have happened etcccc.... park sa nato as we re-organize and regroup for next year's battles. Water under the bridge na ang pagka pildi gahapon, time to move on... hope my team's leadership has learned its lessons well.

Baby Lancers rule

CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers rose from the dead in the final quarter and pulled a heart-stopping 85-82 victory over Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu to bag the secondary division crown of the CESAFI basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

The Baby Lancers were down by ten, 55-65, entering the final canto of the deciding game 5 of their series in the jam-packed stadium.

After four minutes of action in the last period, UV took the upperhand, 70-67, off a triple by Nelson Peralta.

Several Baby Lancers also chipped in for the fourth-quarter binge where they outscored the Magis Eagles, 30-17.

MVP Andres Paul Desiderio led the UV offense en route to a top scoring 21 points.

SHS-AdC, which was also last year’s bridesmaid, gave UV all sorts of trouble and even threatened to reverse the outcome.

Henry Renzar Asilum canned a floater with 19.7 seconds to go putting the Magis Eagles to within one, 80-81, but that was the best they could muster.

Desiderio secured the win for UV with three free throws in the dying moments and capped his performance with a huge defensive rebound that erased all hopes of a SHS-AdC come back.

Desiderio also led the members of the mythical five. The others were his teammates Dexter Lucero and Peralta and completing the line up were Henric Dawn Ochea and Julius Cadavis of SHS-AdC.

James Neil Sumayang of Cebu Eastern College was supposed to be part of the selection, but his spot was instead was given to Lucero as the former already left for Bacolod.

Ron Marvis Dennison and Peralta had 14 and 13 points each for the Baby Lancers while Matthew Oche, also one vital cogs of the victory, added 12 markers.

Coach Delfin Pepito Jr. of UV said that they are happy for the win because they have waited for three years for this.

In 2008, UV beat University of Cebu in the high school finals.

"Pasalamat ko sa management sa suporta nga ilang gihatag namo ilabi na sa Gullas family ug pasalamat sab mi sa among mga fans," Pepito said.

UV team manager Samsam Gullas said that he too is very overwhelmed with their victory being the first under his watch.

SHS-AdC, took command at the second quarter behind Asilum, a member of the Philippine Junior Gilas team.

He top scored for the Magis Eagles with 19 points.

Ochea added 14 points while Aaron Sing made 12, which all came from the three-point zone and all in the third quarter. Jari Igna also had 12 for Ateneo.

Ateneo big man Julius Cadavis was, however, limited to just eight points.

UV Lancers outlast SHS-AdC Eagles in Game 5 to win first high school crown in three years

FOR years the University of the Visayas (UV) fell short in the high school division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. However, the Lancers’ painstaking wait has finally paid off as they captured the high school division crown, after three years.

The Baby Lancers took Game 5, 85-82, to complete their come-from-behind win over last year’s runner-up Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles last night at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Magis Eagles were fluid in their offense in the first three quarters and rode the momentum after ending the third period strong with an 11-4 rally for a 65-55 advantage.

However, at the start of the final quarter UV went blazing hot in the offensive end and turned the tide around with a 19-2 run for a 74-67 cushion.

The Baby Green Lancers exercised a five-point lead with just 47.4 seconds left from a two-pointer by Andres Desiderio, drawing cheers from the UV fans.

When it seemed as if UV has the game in the bag, Dawn Ochea made a three-point play from a lay-up and a free throw to cut the lead to just two 80-78. Mathew Oche was fouled in the other end and he split his free throws to make it 81-78 with 26.6 ticks left.

RP Under-16 team member Henry Asilum wasn’t rattled and took the ball to the basket with a difficult floater to make it 80-81.

The Magis Eagles resorted to an intentional foul and put Oche to the line. Oche hit his first free throw, for a slim 82-80 advantage, but missed his second. However, Oche was bailed out by Desiderio as he grabbed the rebound in the final 12.3 seconds and was fouled. Desiderio hit the dagger after converting both his free throws.

Desiderio led UV with 21 points, while he had much needed help offensively from Ron Dennsion (14 points), Nelson Peralta (13) and Oche (12). Asilum scored 19 points for SHS-AdC.

“I thank the management and the Gullases’ for their huge support and I thank God for this win. This championship was three years in the making,” said UV head coach Jun Pepito.

Desiderio was named MVP of the tournament. He was joined by teammates Lucero and Peralta , and SHS-AdC’s Ochea and Cadavis in the mythical five.

After three long years, the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers returned to their throne atop the juniors division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI).

This, as the Babay Lancers rallied from a 10-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to stun the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, 85-82, to claim the title in the deciding Game 5 of the best-of-five finals series yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Showing poise, confidence and grit worthy of the Lancer tradition, the Baby Lancers snatched the title with a furious fourth period comeback that left the proud Eagles and their blue-clad supporters, dazed and confused. The victory also erased the stinging defeat suffered by their older counterparts, which failed to make it to the finals for the first time since the league’s inception in 2001.

For the Eagles, it’s back to the drawing board to ponder where they went wrong after establishing a 65-55 lead at the end of the third period. It is their second straight loss in the finals after getting swept by the Cebu Eastern College Dragons last season. They were almost there as they unleashed an 11-4 run in the latter stages of the third stanza fueled by three three-point bombs by Aaron Sing.

HUGE FINAL QURTER FOR UV

However, it did not take long for the Baby Lancers to get back in the thick of things. Just a minute and a half into the final period, they were behind by just two, 63-65, after a trey and a three-point play by Ron Dennison and a jumper by Gino Berdin. Later, Nelson Peralta tied the game with a floater and gave UV the lead with a booming three-pointer, 70-67, with a little over six minutes remaining.

Two free-throws by Paul Desiderio and a lay-up by Matthew Oche eventually gave UV their biggest lead of the game at seven, 74-67. All in all, the Baby Lancers unleashed a 19-2 run in less than five minutes that turned the tide in their favor.

Still, the Magis Eagles clawed their way back with a three-point play by Dawn Ochea off an inbound play with 44.8 ticks left. After a free-throw by Oche on the other end, Ateneo came even closer as Henry Asilum made a floater down the middle to peg the score at 80-81.

Oche was again fouled on UV’s next offensive and he made the first free-throw. He missed the second but Desiderio, who was adjudged as the league MVP, grabbed the offensive board and made two free-throws to give them a four point lead and the title.

Desiderio finished with 21 points, 11 coming in the final period. Dennison added 14 while Peralta and Oche chipped in 13 and 12, respectively. The Magis Eagles got 19 from Asilum.

The Mythical Five selection though, was mired in controversy as it was composed of players from the teams playing in the finals. Dexter Lucero, Peralta and Desiderio made it from UV while Julius Cadavis and Ochea got in from SHS-AdC. Notable snubs were Rommel Diapera from third placers, University of Southern Philippines Foundation and Lyle Sumayang from last year’s champions, CEC.
