    @chocomai,

If you are going to license all of your workstations and server... well, it is obvious you got to invest quite high figure besides kausa ra man.. Unya na paglicense if mokita na ka like mine and others of my clients what they did... As far as software licensing raiding is concern wala pa man seguro jud raid.. Well, that makes me also to shift to linux server... I have already make a Domain Controller for Windows XP made of linux box. However got some problem on certain services dili pa jud perfect pareha sa setup nako sa windows server. That's why I'm afraid of applying that idea to my client pa.. Seguro sa ako kay I know how to mingle on it when things turn out into nuts... I have work also nga madaut.. and their bisnes will also ruin imagine server madaut and thus the bisnes....

Pre daghan man diay kag games, unsa may specs sa imong sever? ug mag dungan ang langames, online games, MP3, movies and youtube ug access sa imo g server dili ba mag lag ang games, makaya raba ni na task ug Desktop PC lng himoong server, mahal raba ang real game server ron, Ug sa server mo access ug games ang 20 client pc, can you not consider that a add points to a network traffic, where as ug client pc lng na installed ang games it doesnt need to cross to the network to access the game data from the server, and this would give way a wider network bandwidth for the server to do a lesser task namely, Lan games, onlinegames, internet and etc, than a setup with 160+ different games installed on the server as source for the 20client pc to run games. Eleminating that task can lessen the capital, we can easy substitute an expencieve 200K game server to an affordable good featured router. Well if anybody might ask me where the file server is?The answer would be a 25K desktop pc would do the job, along with the cafe time monitoring in it. Taking a consediration of the bad image of different ISP in our counrty today and the harware limitations of mid range parts which even a few bulkly high end hardwares stamble down, I would rather spend time installing each 20 client pc to save network traffic.

I've work for 3 yrs as IT site assistant administrator, and in my exp. even light applications will stock its balls accessing to the server side when the network got its unpredicted sickness, how much more on games w/c will be setup very dependent of its game data to the server, A beast game sever and network specs will be a need on this which will cost much. On my cafe exp? i was right, on my 2 years of running a gaming cafe this view doesnt change the spelling.

A 3 to 4 tech is not a practical need today, A trusted one is enough plus the cafeowner to dupelicate its skill from the trusted good one. An id**t cafe owner cannot have a real success on this business if he does care to learn about this computer thing. With that combination a 20 client pc is a chiken to handle, installing each pc well not hurt anyonces pocket this way. It well even served as an actual training ground for the cafe onwer if he lacks knowlegde on this matter and etc. In todays competetion which brought internet cafe rates reach to P10/hour, i cant afford to be a cafe onwer with less computer knowledge.

    Bro @teban...

I know you will be amazed on the features that games, plus mp3 and movies all together in my server. To tell you frankly, I've only used a desktop pc for my server: To compensate burden from my server, I placed it 1 GB ddr ram, 1 GB lan card with 1 GB switch (which has 48 ports (100mbps) with 2 Gbps switch).. As I monitored with Languard and other monitoring utilities... It doesn't goes beyond 50% over 100% performance even on the processor side during peak hours thus, it doesn't overloads my server and it work 24 hours everyday ma off lang if naay brownout or downtime during upgrade at awe hours... My desktop pc act as a domain controller, dhcp, dns, internet/web and file server which serves 32 workstations online plus a network printer... and it cost me for my server 40,000+ plus coz I have 3 200GB sata drives and 2 20gb ide, It use for system and one for mirroring... then, LCD monitor akong gi used if minus the LCD it costs only 30,000 pesos.. Games that stored in the server are NBA 2007, Company Heroes, Generals, Warcraft plus online games.. etc... Bsan magdungan pa ug dagan tanan.... However, there are some games that install on the workstation b'coz of its limitation.. Can't find a tweak for some certain games...

If you don't believe then... come to visit my cafe..

    Chocomai,

Before, I used to limit downloads and porno access as well.. But, pag-abot sa rumors nga dunay raid.. I uninstalled ISA Server kay wala ko'y license ana nga software and it is very expensive... I have client nga school then I installed jud other box for web access kay linux akong gigamit for filtering their spam emails, virus scanner, porno access and download limitation. So, 3 ka server one for domain controller, proxy server for web access and exchange server....

For now, linux application akong nakitang alternative when it comes to limit users downloading.. Pero the features are really good it even block downloading from P2P application softwares thru packet filtering....

"To compensate burden from my server, I placed it 1 GB ddr ram, 1 GB lan card with 1 GB switch (which has 48 ports (100mbps) with 2 Gbps switch).."

Brad that part give you and option to spend less on the server and gain more network bandwith to fit your system. But would you share pila ang worth sa 48 port switch nimo na switch? And also ang Lan card na gamit nimo, is that an onboard gigabit lan card, nihit man gud ma palit locally ang gigabit external lan card and ug mahal sad ug mag order pag palit, pila may price sa external lan card if mao man gani imong gamit and from what store you got it? thanks

By the way is FEAR COMBAT one of those games installed in the server?About MP3's and movies its very seldom costumers spend time sa cafe for that.

    pre...

my switch and 1 Gb LAN card is already 8 years old na.... That's why I did not spend more money on my server coz I just upgraded some of it... like processor, hard disk and motherboard na lang... Some of my clients are maximum of 20 pc's lang. Then, it has 1 gb lan onboard.. And I require them not too very expensive servers. Also, they are using switch na daan b4 I introduced my setup to them. Most likely, hard drive na lng akong ipapalit nila... Naa gani ko client sa CIT duol and they have 15 units lang celeron ra gani ila server and games not really heavy coz there pc's are not capable of playing heavy graphics... Only arcade games lang, naa games sa server kanang modagan sa ila pc.. battle of realms, red alert and warcraft and MP3 ug movies...On top of that, they benefited of my setup coz I have automation programs for maintainance.

My server is P4 3.0 Ghz, Intel 478 chipset serving 32 workstations since it was just upgraded last year not mentioning a walkin customer.. naa sab foreigner dala lang sa ila laptop then hookup lang sila. Then, my other cafe 20 ka workstations ang server P4 3.0 Ghz, Intel 775 chipset, 512 MB, onboard ang 1gb lan (kay lisud pangitaon karon), separate 100MB lan card for DSL modem.

    Sorry Tebs...

ako lan card nga 1gb kay 3com second hand.. 7,000 pesos akong palit ani b4 way back 1999 or 2000 pa..

Wala pa ko anang FEAR Combat.. i'll buy soon if I found pirated... Bitaw, not all clients ganahan ug movies ug mp3's.. But there are few... and it add up services man gud.. coz I have clients here mangutana jud nako unsa akong movie. Perhaps they are renting a house or rooms lang mga trabahante mepza.. past time lang pud tanaw nila ug movies.. Tinood dako kaau bayad if ila jud hutdon kay my rate here is 18.00 pesos/hr. Well.. ila man sab i-forward aron dali mahuman... As long as, malingaw sila then ok sab ako nga part kay malipay man sila..
