Well, just as some people go out and drink beer, other people can go out and socialize over a cup of coffee too. Starbucks isn't just selling coffee, they selling the idea that coffee is part of your social life and a cup is best enjoyed socially. If I want to drink coffee, I'll drink coffee at the comfort of my house. If I want to enjoy a nice talk with some friends over coffee, then I go to a coffee shop.
By the way, I'm not a coffee drinker but I do see the significance of Starbucks and other coffee shops. It's not just the coffee, it's the experience.
