Well, just as some people go out and drink beer, other people can go out and socialize over a cup of coffee too. Starbucks isn't just selling coffee, they selling the idea that coffee is part of your social life and a cup is best enjoyed socially. If I want to drink coffee, I'll drink coffee at the comfort of my house. If I want to enjoy a nice talk with some friends over coffee, then I go to a coffee shop.

By the way, I'm not a coffee drinker but I do see the significance of Starbucks and other coffee shops. It's not just the coffee, it's the experience.

This is true If you want to have long talks with acquaintances or friends and you dont want to have it over bottles of beer, then a cup of coffee is the next stop..
