Honestly, I've been studying internet cafe system for 8 years coz I happened to own an internet cafe also. What I can gurantee to you is that, my system is different from others. I haven't seen yet with the same setup that I have...Different or to make you understand...These are the services includes in the system:

    1. (server served as file server: Client's My Documents folder are redirected onto file server repositories)Centralized repositories of client's document files. Clients are able to save their documents at the server automatically so that they would be able to restore and work again there files any vacant workstations at any time.
    2. Games are run at the server. This is cheap and reasonable b'coz no need of hard disk upgrades at workstations. It needs 40GB which is the minimum hard drive available today in the makert. Robust since the application and files of the games are saved at the server specially online games wherein updates are periodically needed. This is tedious to the client and to the attendant as well, sometimes b'coz they wud wait for a certain time just to download the patches before they can play. What if you have more than 10 workstations so you have to update each of them everyday in the morning.
    3. DHCP (this is automatic assigning of workstations IP addresses) and DNS(needed for internet connection) services are enabled at the server. NTP or Network Time Protocol is activated this will synchronize time from your workstations.
    4. Internet access is quite fast since windows server 2003 has the capability of caching sites especially busy sites. No additional router needed. NAT address service is activited at the server itself.
    5. On top of that, I have added routinary maintenance program everytime workstation boots. Thus, it would delete temporary files as well as unnecessary files including suspected viruses and malwares from the server repositories. However, workstation system is at froze by DeepFreeze program but client's files are not. They are free to save files in my documents folder as they feel they are working in their homes.
    6. When, workstations are happened to ruin by intruders or virus infections. I have an automated program that would restore the image of the original system and restore it with only 15-20 minutes. So, downtime machine are lessen and no hassle with the attendant. The only thing he/she would do is to click on the icon provided at the maintenance library. Then, all things goes back to normal.
    7. Desktop icons, start menu and programs are ridirected from the server. This is good b'coz putting up of program icons is done once at the server. Any changes you made at the desktop icons, start menu and programs at the server it would automatically available each of the client's desktop as well.
    8. Tons of MP3's, movies and other entertainment media are also available at Client's workstation. Client can watch local movies (meaning, movies which are not streamed from internet such as youtube) or listening MP3's while encoding or chatting their friends. I have 80GB's of MP3's stored at the server and all of those are available each clients. ---- If you have only 40GBs of hard disk at workstation it is impossible for you to share MP3's which is beyond 80GB, plus games and system files, peer-to-peer networking is discourage when you have 10 or more workstations per microsoft techsupport communities. Imagine how expensive will be your investment just for hard drives for each workstations. Perhaps you need 200 GBs per workstation worth (7,000 plus x no. of workstations).. wow that's a big investment. But for my system that factor is quite eliminated.
    9. For security:
    1. Desktop is protected. Client cannot change even deleting icons.
    2. Games, System Files (Drive C), Library Drives are hidden from the client. This would secure from being deleted by clients. Thus, those drives are not viewable in My Computer even DOS prompt commands but feasible from clients.
    3. MP3, movies(such as dat, mpeg) are read only to the clients.
    4. System Administrator accounts are available this will use by SysAd or by you to do maintenance, either installation of additional games or application programs onto the workstations and server.
    10. For accounting, I have tweak on the cafe station program. That is also included on the server installation.

Others can offer networking as well as on system setup then internet then bang they would left you with lack of tools that you might needed in your business. I know all can install and setup an internet cafe. For me this is basing from the experiences and knowledge. Lucky, for them b'coz the knew how to maintain what if you are planning to limit overhead cost. Then, that is the best setup for you.... that is a pure system administration..

Perhaps you are in doubt want proof? Then, text me.. to see and to feel is to believe.. By the way, I can setup linux system. However, I do have problems with Linux Server ---> Windows workstation. Windows client authentication is done by linux server with SAMBA LDAP services. However, got some technical issues in which I cannot determine for now.. However, research is still on going. When, I found tweaks at the SAMBA LDAP then, investment of Windows 2003 server might eliminated... For now, Windows 2003 server is the best and more robust... Wala pa man sab raid rumors lang na..so nothing to worry about

Ang Disadvantage pud aning games na dependent sa server ug may apan ang server, damay tanan na client workstations, unya wala nay games, affected na pud ang daily income, where us ug per workstation ang intallation ug ma guba ang usa ka client pc mao ratoy walay income, pila ramay price diffrence sa 80G Sata to 40G karon 300pesos gamay ra kaayo oy. Ug mp3 hisgotan naay daghang mp3 player sa net, although new songs nihit makit-an, ug gusto kag new songs naay daghang internet radio broadcast kapilian such as AOL and Yahoo radio.

korek sab na, pero sa walo na ko katuig ani nga bisnes sugod pa ko ug windows nt server wala man sab ko nagkaproblema nga major madaut ang server ug down nga usa ka semana..even to my clients... As long they would follow what are needed to do... seguro usa ka adlaw... If you are planning to setup client/server based system you should know what are the factors that might fall onto that problem. Well, first step you do is to make a backup of your server. Then, if dili ka ganahan... you can mirror your hard drive if master ide will fail, you have second ide para maka sustain sa imo daily bisnes, in short redundancy... Maau sab ng naa tanan sa workstation however ang problem is ang sige ug install. Imagine, if you have 20 or more workstations.. and so 20 sab ka workstations imo installan whereas if server based... kausa ra ko mag-install then all things wil go as smooth as easy.... 20 workstations at least you have 3 to 4 technicians para mo maintain (if it is shifting bases like mine) sa ako is attendant ra nako dili pa sud hasol sa iyaha part and i can do without intervening more sa ako technical aspect sa ako bisnes.. naa man gani gamay na lang kaau mga tweaks na lang.....

Bitaw daghan kaau mp3's online.. what I'm emphasizing here is magsige'g download ug mp3 ang client which makes an add-up to your network traffic. If you have one repositories for MP3 at least they wouldn't mind to download kay naa naman tanan sa server. They can copy also if they want to... I am particular about the costs... 80G doesn't fit much kung isulod jud tanan.. I have 160 + games available at workstations and 40,000 + mp3's then I have also movies before 40 every week karon medyo akong gi gamyan kay naa namay you tube. Naa sab ko client sa mindanao nga puro movie ang iya gi offer kay mao man gipangita sa iya client. See, my clients are offering good bisnes to them... Thus, it makes them comfortable, magsige sila ug balik tungod sa services sa imo pc gi offer.... imagine if you have 20 workstation so ika 20 sab ka mag install ana... which is very tedious and not productive sa imo attendant unless you have plenty of workers but the cost also will get high....
