And the Webmasters just registered their second defeat earlier from the Cobras! Nonetheless, it doesn't change the fact that the Webmasters are still the number 1 seed for the semis! SCORE: 68-71

IN RANK FOR THE SEMIS: UC, SWU, UV and USC! )

Semis will really be an exciting game for everyone! It will be something unpredictable!

When UV won against the Eaglets, it was Desiderio, a pasarelle player who won it for the baby Lancers. Games are won by many factors: scouting, coaching, players, teamwork, talents, etc.
welcome back Samsia.... dugay dugay man ka nag hibernate from this forum. points well taken and thanks much for sharing the info / straightening the facts.

Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu ends elims on high note, faces CEC in semifinals

The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles ended their campaign in the elimination round on a rousing note as they routed the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars, 82-67, in the juniors division of the 2011 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

With the prelims ending, now comes the tough part for the Magis Eagles as they face off in the semifinals nest week against the reigning champions Cebu Eastern College Dragons, the very same team that swept them in the finals last year.

Ateneo has an ace up their sleeve as they are armed with a twice-to-beat advantage by virtue of their 14-2 (win-loss) record, good for a top two finish.

The other pairing in the semifinals pits the top-seeded University of the Visayas Baby Lancers against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers.

Dawn Ochea and his running mate Julius Cadavis led the Magis Eagles with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Ricky Cuyos had 16 for the Baby Jaguars, which ended the season with a 4-12 mark.

USJ-R started strong yesterday as they led, 15-14, after the opening period of play.

All that quickly changed as the Magis Eagles found their groove on both ends of the floor in the ensuing cantos.

Ochea and Mavii Suarez dominated down low to give Ateneo the lead until the final buzzer.

Jupasko note: HAPPY 16th birthday Mavii Suarez! May your Magis Eagles team win the 2011 Cesafi Juniors Basketball crown! ONE BIG FIGHT!

Cesafi to tweak sked for City Olympics
    By Iste S. Leopoldo

    Thursday, October 13, 2011

TO HELP strengthen Region 7’s basketball team in Palarong Pambansa, Cebu City has put up a basketball team from the different public schools that will face the private school teams in the 21st Cebu City Olympics that will open this Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

“We formed this team because we want to develop more players coming from the public schools to give them an avenue to have their potentials discovered and earn an educational scholarship grant from the different universities,” Vice Mayor Joy Young said.

He said basketball is the no. 1 sport in the country and that some Cebuanos have enjoyed basketball scholarships in big universities in Manila.

“We are not expecting a lot with the team but I believe the team is very competitive,” Young said.

On the other hand, the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) will make sure there will be no conflict of schedule between the Cesafi and the Cebu City Olympics, like what happened last year.

Last year, the University of Cebu and Cebu Eastern College were forced to forfeit their games in the City Olympics due to a schedule conflict.

“Just in case our top four secondary teams will be playing in the semifinals or championship in the Cebu City Olympics, we will do our best to adjust the schedule.

We will coordinate with the organizers,” Cesafi Commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy said.

For this year, Cebu City has also formed a sports committee that will supervise the training of the athletes who will qualify to the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association and the Palarong Pambansa.

“We are doing these changes and adjustments to make team Cviraa more stronger and I am confident that mu-taas ang points nato sa Palarong Pambansa,” Young said.

Published in the Sun.Star Cebu newspaper on October 14, 2011.
