Default Re: Road Revolution. Yes or NO?

For the Road-crap Revolution people, arrogance is the answer.

Should we locals allow them to insult us and push us away so that they can get what they want? Road-crap Revolution's organizers cannot fool me.

It's time locals should organize themselves to express NO to Road-crap Revolution.

    Road Rev to change gear

UNFAZED by criticisms against last month’s event, organizers behind the Road Rev vowed to continue the campaign to redesign roads and reduce air pollution and carbon emissions, but said there will be a change in strategy.

Law of Nature Foundation Inc. president Antonio Oposa Jr. said the Road Revolution program will be conducted at the barangay level in Cebu City.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

Oposa, a lawyer, said convenors of the movement will look at positive and negative feedback about last month’s road closure to determine how to improve their next activity.

But he said he believes that the activity, despite the criticisms it received, “succeeded in making people think.”

In a forum with Sun.Star Cebu columnists, editors and reporters yesterday, Oposa said Road Rev was able to show the public that mindsets can change and that roads should not be exclusive to motorized vehicles.

    Share

He said taxpayers who do not have motorized vehicles, who make up majority of the population, should have equal share of the road. This means government should allot part of the road for pedestrians and bikers.

“Road Rev (calls for) a review of the existing road system, make it more fair by giving everyone their share of road. Road Rev seeks to revise the road system to favor the five percent of people who cannot afford cars and motor vehicles,” said Oposa.

He said if this can be done Cebu, it can be a source of pride for Cebuanos.

“The challenge is not in changing Cebu, but making Cebu do it so well it becomes a model for the country,” he added.

He said three barangays in Cebu City, which he declined to name, have agreed to become the first to implement the movement’s principles.

    Park

For 16 hours last June 12, the Road Rev was launched with the closure of Fuente Osmeña oval to vehicle traffic. The rotunda became a park for bikers, skateboarders, runners and hikers.

Road Rev joined the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., which organized a cultural program in downtown Cebu City, last Sept. 24. But the event irked many motorists and commuters.

Oposa told Sun.Star Cebu that Road Rev favors an alternative road scenario that includes space for a collective transport system, a bicycle lane, a sidewalk for pedestrians and a center island planted to vegetables and fruit-bearing trees.

Last June, the group submitted to the Cebu City Council a proposal to divide existing roads into four: 30 percent for all-weather sidewalks and pathways, 30 percent for bicycle lanes, 30 percent for Filipino-made “collective and non-pollutive” transportation systems and 10 percent for gardens.

At Sun.Star, Oposa made an illustration of how 60 people with their own vehicles could cause traffic congestion, as opposed to the same number of people in one collective mode of transportation, like a bus.

Oposa said the information drive of Road Rev would be implemented in different parts of the country in January next year, in cooperation with the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines.

He said the Road Rev organizers, which include the Philippine Earth Justice Center Inc. and 350.org., have prepared a starter kit for local government units that want to implement a similar program.

manirado og kalsada ba ang road revolution og balik? dili. sa gi ingon sa balita, i implementar ang pagbahin sa kadalanan: usab, 30% transport system, 30% bike lanes, 30% walk lanes, 10% edible gardens, or a variance of the percentages.

taga-i ko'g mga specific and objective questions or reasons nganong naka-ingon mo ni-ana. salamat.

Road Rev closes roads, creates a huge traffic mess to promote enviromental awareness. In doing so, they just added a whole lot more pollutants from the huge traffic they created. Computing averages, cubic liters per cylinder X number of cylinders X number of revolutions per minute X number of vehicles X number of hours they're stuck = tons of pollutants that Road Rev could never have hoped to reduce in the best of their efforts. At the same time, they just wasted thousands of dollars in oil imports. In other words it's just idiocy (helllooo mr. EXPERT hahaha).

this is a stupid revolution!!!. its drive is purely personal gratification. huna-hunaa pud ninyo ang padung mo trabaho nga ma late na intawn tungod sa traffic, mo layo pa gyud ang agi-anan kay e re-route man ang jeepney. ma bwisit ang employee kay ma late, ma bwisit pud ang employer kay ma lugi iyang business kay late ang employees ning abot, mag bwisit ang customer kay wala pa ning abot or late ning abot ilang order. mag domino epek ang ka bwisit. wake up you *****s!

and your goal? para mo gamay ang pollution? damn you! your road rev is not creating any.

mo tabang palang mo ug endorsed/campaign sa BRT or MRT plan para mo gamay ang jeepneys. or mag campaign mo to strictly imposed smoke belching sa mga vehicle. or mag campaign ba kaha mo to rid vendors on our existing sidewalks para ang tawo maka agi na sa sidewalk instead nga sa kalsada. (dili na mi halos ka agi kay daghan au nag tinda sa sidewalk, naa pa jud habal2x mag cge ug parking). kini hinuon if ma buhat ninyo ni, mo tuo ko nga maka tabang mo sa kalibutan. if dili, pag mata mo oi, kamo ra'y gi bugo!!!.

    ATTY OPOSA COULD BE A "STUBBORN" FELLOW, HE DOESN'T WANT TO LISTEN TO THE CITY RESIDENTS AND WANTED TO IMPOSED THEIR "COMMUNISTIC" WAYS IN CEBU CITY, JUST HOPING THE CITY PEOPLE WILL NOT LOSE THEIR PATIENCE WITH THESE ROAD REV PEOPLE;
HE COULDN'T DO IT DURING TOM OSMENA'S TIME SINCE MR TOM IS A NO NONSENSE MAYOR,
DALI RA MAN NA NGA ULO-ULOHAN SI MAYOR RAMA BISAN DILI GUSTO ANG KATAWHAN, HA?

I don't like to bike in our city because of the weather.

Biking is simply not feasible in our city. Or even in the country. A mass transportation system such as the BRT is what is needed.

Biking would be good if I were in the USA or in Europe.

Some of the bikers joining the road revolution are also just showing off their expensive equipment (mountainbikes with carbon fiber frame?).

After biking, they just simply just drive off with their gas guzzling SUVs.

Not feasible? I regularly bike to and from work almost everyday how could it be not feasible? I see people biking to work alongside with me all the time now you're saying its not feasible?

For close minded people its not feasible of course. Hadlok mo mu itom? Kana nga mentality ang hinanggaw. Unsa mo mga model mo sa whitening products?

Layo inyo work? Kwentaha inyong commute time ug cost nya kwentaha pud pila magasto ninyo mag board duol sa workplace ninyo. I factor in ang time nga ma-save kung duol na mo ug dili kinahanglan mag commute. Time lost commuting could be used doing worthwhile things or relaxing kung duol lang inyo place of work.

Ingon pa ang usa "just for the environment" daw. Right, like the environment is no big deal.

Paying road users tax does not mean the road is exclusively for motor vehicle use.

Sige ipadayon na ang current set-up sa atong dalan tan.awon nato 5 yrs from now swerte ra ang 1 hr travel from Capitol to Colon.

    Enjoy your smog people.
