i beg to disagree...
a person makes a dumb one if he procrastinates to look and work the areas to be improved.
a person doesn't make a dumb one based on the job he/she chooses. That's irrelevant.

I'm not sane but I don't see your point. Using a second language (English) 8 hours everyday, 5 days a week CAN definitely improve your English Communication Skills. Same thing with reading as long as you're reading it the right way.. i.e. right pronunciationOriginally Posted by jorman

I dont think working in a callcenter makes one dumber. I can really appreciate them. Just like the one time i had to call for tech support when i had Earthlink. I really thought i was talking to someone just here in the U.S. but boy was i wrong! the guy spoke english really well, he was able to guide me through with a tech problem step by step and was very helpful all the way through the end of the call. He was located in Cebu. Working in a call center should make you smarter. The more exposure you have to the different nature of call handlings you have over the phone the more versatile you become. Think of it that way. Focus on the good side of your job, never put yourselves down and so as your job. Its your attitude about your job that counts and you never know, that might land you the big bucks too because with good attitude, you will naturally shine and get noticed for that and you might climb the ladder of promotions much faster than others. So keep that in mind. Nothing to lose and all to gain. There is no perfect job anywhere. Whether you be selling tupperwares, work in a call center or sell tupperwares in your spare time at a call center, a job is a job.
Working in a call center never makes a person dumber, but its the attitude that makes a person as such.
Before, way back when i was in college, i have this bad impression about Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) industry or in our layman's term as "Call Center" because of the idea that my mentor, as well as my other instructors, instilled in my mind to be of something that i shouldn't venture after i finish college coz working in such company never fit my qualifications as a degree holder. She told me that if am gonna work there my four years of sleepless nights will be put to waste because she believes that those insights i gain from my schooling will no longer be applicable in a call center career. And that was my mindset back then until recently, i found out that that idea is just a misconception in the part of those people who really don't have the concrete notion of the nature of the BPO industry.
I believe, working in a call center doesn't mean that you are a loser of your degree, and that's what others think of it, right? It doesn't mean that an IT graduate working as an agent makes him less, what if his job is related to his career? My point here is, even if you are in a call center company, you can still practice your profession. Let us say one is an AB Psych graduate, he may join the recruitment team of the HR Dept., a fresh CPA can join the Accounting Dept. and a tech savvy can join the workforce in techsupport and am certain that the knowledge he gain from his education will never be stagnant rather he is abreast to equip himself in the fast-paced world he live in.
Therefore, i must say that working in a call center never makes one dumber rather it is a continuous quest for knowledge in every interaction that he encounters in every endeavor in life.
