Kindle Fire: 95,000 Orders On Day One

It's not exactly iPad territory, but Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet is off to a solid start in terms of sales, according to one analyst firm.

eDataSource, which tracks consumer purchases, estimates that Amazon received about 95,000 pre-orders for Kindle in the first 24 hours after the product was unveiled Wednesday. That's a good bit lower than the 300,000 iPads that Apple sold in that gadget's first day on the market, but still respectable--particularly given that the Kindle Fire won't actually ship until Nov. 15.

how's the battery life?... yeah same as other tablets.

If you like it more on reading, get the old monochrome version, and be surprised with the battery life.

people will never satisfied, tungod sa ka paspas sa technology, bag.o pa gani pag gawas sa gadget, and wishing mo abot sa pinas, then pag abot, mga weeks lang nagamit, tugpa dayon sa buy and sell section.

The very positive response to the fire sale of the TouchPad at $100 showed that there is a good number of people out there who want a tablet that packs a lot of features and is cheaper than the other tablets. At $199, Kindle Fire is an easy favorite for money-conscious people.

pack of features.... Amazon has not said whether it plans to release a follow-up model with 3G or 4G cellular reception... camera? GPS? Call it basic android tab.

Kindle Fire compels companies to cut down prices

On Thursday, technology companies came under pressure to slash down the prices of their tablet computers after Amazon.com launched its Kindle Fire at a very pocket-friendly cost of $199. The device comes with Android and a 7-inch display. It also works with Amazon’s growing suite of data and content services, including its Cloud-storage service, Amazon Instant video service and the Kindle e-book store. Currently being the most attractively priced tablets in the market, Kindle Fire is being touted as the “iPad Killer.” Whether or not it could reach those heights is still to be answered but the fact remains that they both can bring something unique to the market and co-exist in complete harmony. But certainly there’s no denying that Amazon’s the new competitor on the block!

Amazon’s Kindle Fire offers an 8-hour battery life, speedy operation with a dual-core processor, and similar specs to other Android tablets. There's no camera or GPS, but something had to go to keep the price low – still, users are showing a lot of excitement about it!

Others like Samsung Electronics to Sony Corp also have major ambitious plans to take on Apple, whose iPad is the gold standard in the booming market. So far, Samsung has been the most credible challenger to the iPad. But analysts now believe it could lose its No. 2 position because of Amazon’s Fire.

    A must-read article

Kindle Fire: the tablet that knows your next move

The Fire is different. It has a colour touch screen and can play video, for example. More significantly, it can run apps, has a proper operating system (a customised version of Google's Android) and does wireless networking. And it comes with its own, custom-designed web browser, called Silk (of which more in a moment). Oh, and at $199 it's less than half the price of a basic iPad2, which may, in the end, turn out to be the most important thing about it.

The Fire doesn't go on sale in the US until 19 November and so we will have to wait for the tech vultures who disassemble new kit to do their stuff before we know what its bill of materials actually comes to.

But my guess is that Amazon will be selling it at a loss, just as it did with the first Kindle. And that highlights the difference between it and Apple. Amazon makes its money from content – sales of books, music, videos – and uses the Kindle as a way of enabling "frictionless purchasing" of that content. Apple, in contrast, makes most of its money from selling beautiful kit with outrageous profit margins. It also sells content – think of the iTunes store – but the margins on that are significantly less than on the hardware.

Which is why the tablet wars have just begun. Amazon is just about the only outfit around that can give Apple a run for its money. It has vast amounts of content instantly available in its internet "cloud" and a purchasing and order-fulfilment system at least as slick as Apple's. If it turns out that the Fire tablet is really as good as Amazon hopes at encouraging people to consume digital content, then it can continue to sell the Fire at below cost, challenging Apple to reduce the price of the iPad and thereby erode its margins.

I would not be surprised to see the Kindle Fire's pre-orders reach 1,000,000 before the month ends.

I don't think this will be released here in the Philippines. If it will, the better.

Why the Kindle Fire Succeeds Where Honeycomb Tablets Fail

This holiday season, most Americans won't be buying Samsung Galaxy Tabs or Acer Iconias. They'll be buying Amazon Kindle Fires. That's because Amazon has learned a lesson other Android tablet manufacturers haven't: Tell buyers what you're supposed to do with the darn thing.

The Fire's $199 price will be a big component of its success, but it's not the only thing that makes the Fire compelling. If you're trying to introduce a new product category to Americans—and even with the iPad around, tablets are a new product category—you have to explain to people why they want it, in clear terms and without overwhelming them.

This has been a big problem for Android tablet vendors so far because Android tablets do everything, and they appear to be marketed by engineers.
