I've been saying this - Implementation is Key!

Filipinos abroad are good citizens because we know we can't get away with things

Whatever rants , debates that are out there , people will always be wise guys if they know they can get away with things.

you can have an authoritarian leader (strict) and still have a democracy. Manuel Quezon was an example of an authoritarian type leader.

Too much freedom is easily abused and ironically can result in less freedom and more poverty in the end. Take a look at what's happening between PAL and PALEA now. The union want to exercise their freedom to strike but they damaged company property and equipment intentionally causing distress to passengers. In the end, once PAL folds and goes bankrupt the government will be forced to take over and the taxpaying citizens end up footing the bill, hence less freedom because a few people want to exercise their irresponsible freedom. An authoritarian leader would have step in and put his foot down on this kind of illegal activity. A weak leader would sit on the sidelines and do nothing while our national carrier one of the first in Asia and the few remaining symbols of national pride is being ruined all in the name of freedom.

Is this the kind of freedom we want? Man, this is not freedom this is total anarchy. I don't want martial law but I want a democracy based on order and the law, not based on emotions and chaos.

An authoritarian leader who cannot be influenced by friends and family, but only by what is right.

Default PD#1081 - Martial Law after 40 years

Proclamation No. 1081 was the declaration of martial law in the Philippines by President Ferdinand E. Marcos. Once in effect, it covered the entire republic on September 21, 1972. It was announced to the public two days later.

Under the pretext of a staged assassination of his former Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile (now Senate President) and an ensuing communist insurgency, Marcos ruled by military power through martial law, altered the Constitution in the subsequent year, made himself both Head of State as President and Head of Government as Prime Minister, manipulated elections and the political arena in the Philippines, and had his political party--Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) (English: New Society Movement) control the unicameral legislative branch of government called the "Batasang Pambansa". All these allowed Marcos to remain in power.

The proclamation was actually signed on September 17, but was postdated four days later on September 21 because of Marcos' superstitions and numerology beliefs. Marcos formally announced the proclamation two days after at midnight on September 23, 1972 via live national television broadcast.

Martial law was lifted by President Marcos on January 17, 1981.

anyway.. to be clear.. if it wasnt for the martial law, there is a big possibility of the philippines turning into a communist state. communism was at there prime during the 60's. crime was rampant and so on.

and i believe filipinos needs to be held on iron hands..
