lyrical hook - is a word, group of words or phrases that occurs several times on the verses and/or chorus of a song.

example is the word "yellow" on Coldplay' s smash single Yellow.

Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah they were all yellow

I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called yellow

So then I took my turn
Oh all the things I've done
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
D'you know you know I love you so
You know I love you so

I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh all the things you do
Cause you were all yellow

lyrical hooks boost the theme or the ambiance the song wants to conveys, it also adds beauty to the lyrical structure. Subconciously, lyrical hooks gets the listeners to be "hooked" by the song.
