Add lang ko based on my experience...
I'm also a D90 user and my macro setup is extension tube plus 50mm 1.8D. You could go for just two tubes but lesser ang magnification, or you could use an external flash like I do. I bought my ET at P750 and my 50mm 1.8D at 5k kay 2nd hand man.
Also, gamit sad ang LED flashlight pang meter sa subject in low light conditions.
Ang ako lang humble suggestion nimo TS, usa ka moinvest anang mga mahal nga macro lenses, sulay una sa cheaper alternatives like reversing ring, extension tube and macro filter lenses. Naa man gud uban nga gigil kaayo magmacro unya later on narealize nila nga macro is not for them and their expensive macro lens end up on sale at a low price in the Buy and Sell Section.
Kun sure na jud ka nga ganahan jud ka's macro, then it's time to invest on a good macro lens. Nindot jud gamiton ang macro lens kaysa ubang cheaper alternatives.
