    Default Globelines BROADBAND/ADSL question

Hello people, I am subscribed to globelines and I use an ADSL modem they provided me. Connection speed is 384Kbps, but I experience average speeds of 15Kbps and maximum speeds of 25Kbps with downloads/uploads. I pay Globelines Php 1,900+ monthly.

Is Globelines BROADBAND different from the service I have? What is the best ISP around which offers-- say, 50Kbps download/upload speeds on average? Thanks.

    Default Globelines BROADBAND/ADSL question

I think the 384 kbps speed that GLOBE or any other DSL company is referring to is the connection between you and the DSL company's local network. Since being a DSL subscriber would just simply mean you are just a workstation connected in their network. Imagine an internef cafe. You have a server and workstations connected to the server by a hub. Now imagine GLOBE or any other DSL provider as the server and the their entire DSL subscriber as their workstations.

From you to them its fast.... but from them to the outside world and back to them, its a different thing.

    A scenario would be.
    384 upstream/128 downstream

You download MP3 from mp3.com. You send data to mp3.com. The route would be.

    You >>> Globe = 384 kbps

Globe >>> mp3.com = this would be a variable affected by a lot of things Network Latency, ISP backbone, dns resolution and etc... This is where the lag comes in.

Globe <<< mp3.com = same scenrario as above.

    You <<< Globe = 128 kbps

Your speed download is affected by globes connection to the internet hi-way.

I got my dsl lines all from pldt. They gave me 768kbps. I can download with 94KB/s. Each cost 3000/month.

Hmmm... So that's how it works, eh? Thanks for the enlightening info, astang.com. hehe

@softtouch_ph: That just costs too much... Does pldt have a php1900+ per month plan?? Do you think it's better than Globelines' Php1900+ package? (All 384 Kbps)

They are usually cheaper than globe. They changed the plans, so better call 171 and ask.
