Default Philippines 3rd on DISASTER RISK index

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines is third top country in the world most at risk of disasters, a new study said.

Vanuatu and Tonga placed first and second on the World Risk Index (WRI), which measures social vulnerability as well as exposure to natural hazards and climate change.

The United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) in Germany developed the index, which calculates risk values for 173 countries worldwide.

A report presenting the index was published by Alliance Development Works, a coalition of German development and relief agencies.

Looks like we're not prepared if a disaster strikes in the future. Thoughts?

i know prone gyud ta sa natural disasters like seasonal typhoon which had become stronger due to climate change but i think we cope well. When Katrina hit the US grabeh man gani ang damage and we suffer that kind of natural disaster over 5 times a year. And country like Bangladesh surprisingly fare better on this study considering they are prone to flooding and they lose land mass yearly due to flooding. And the current situation in Thailand na 2 months na ang flood wtf ?? wa man gani sila sa list.

Its kinda embarrassing also, as far as i know we are the richest country on this 10 countries on the list. Its like saying we dont invest well on our disaster preparation.

but if this study will serve as a wake up call for our government then be it.. criticism is healthy.
