my philosophy lang in doing paid shoots is, you're paying me for my time. if muhangyo sila or drag other photographer's name into the discussion, I just tell them nga didto na lang sila pa shoot.

don't get me wrong, i'm not someone famous in the photography world, i just value my time. if the client does not want to pay my fee, i'd rather do something more productive. like magrelax sa beach or play with my son.

well for me thats wrong. Not only you will lose clients but your doing it intentionally.
Clients usually do that comparing other photogs and price, that is why i made this steps in dealing or presenting.
For me before i discus my package/inclusion and job or before meet-ups/meeting (step 1) i ask them if they can afford my rate. if yes i then i proceed to step 2 which is explaining them what they will get with this package or rate. And what is so specially about my photos comparing to others.
Step 3 is discussing the terms and payment method which is require 20-50% DP within 24hrs for Booking reservation. Non-Refundable
Think of your self as the product and what ever you do don't sell others. that is why i ask them first if they can afford me. B4 wasting my time negotiating a Low-Baller Client that is not even worth it.

don't get me wrong. i don't mind if the client haggles you to lower down your price. that's normal especially if it's a return client. what i do mind is if they really insist on "lowballing" you and slap in your face the rates of another photographer. I just tell them "politely" that they can really pick anyone they like and if they want me, they can pay my rates.

i'd rather have on client than bring the rates really down. ubos na presyo, hago pa gyud. tulog na lang ko sa balay diba? but that's just me

As a hobbyist photographer I price myself so high on gigs that even my friends/potential clients turn the other cheek. I've lost a handful of opportunities already with my attitude, but the thing is I never regret asking the right price for my services. Those 6k gig ain't worth it if it'll start to eat on my day job's time just to make deadlines meet
