Default Obesity Issues - Obese Filipinos, how are you?

So much for religion and pinoy threads, let's divert to another issue being faced by the Philippine society. Obesity!

Filipinos love to eat. TRUE! Almost everywhere in the Philippines, there is one unique dish that can make your tastebuds come alive! Like what?

Been to pampanga, and the kare-kare is superb.
The bicol express is a favorite of people who loves spicy foods!
    The sinigang of the tagalogs!
    Bacolod's inasal na manok
And the last time I went to Ilocos. Their kakanins are tasty for my discrimating taste! Not to mention, their empanadas are the best tasting empanadas in the entire Philippines

But as they say, too much of anything is bad. True!

As you walk down the street, probably in downtown where you can cross paths with different people from all walks of life, we can't help but recognize that there are a lot of obese people nowadays! And obesity, as we know it, is, well, a serious condition!

Obesity affects the people physically, socially, emotionally.

Physically because if a person's obese, he/she is most likely to develop a heart attack, or the famous hypertension, which is a silent killer! grrrrr!

Socially because there are times when it's hard to deal with others, for instance, when you are on a jeepney, and you consume a lot of space. Tendency is, some people might be frustrated at you, most especially, the konduktors!

Emotionally because obesity affects your confidence, and your self esteem! But that depends on how you carry yourself! But mostly that's the scenario. You would rather stay at home instead of going outside coz you're afraid people will look and stare at you just because you're fat!

I encourage obese istoryans to share your experiences.

If you used to be obese, and successfully lost weight, please let us know by sharing to us your "before and after" pics.

i use to be obese. I was obese from highschool - early college.

The largest size i reached was a waist line of 42 inches.

The heaviest i got was 82kg (multiply by 2.2 to get it in pounds).

then i joined the swim team in my 2nd year of college, and to this day, i am 54-56kg (dili steady coz im a glutton and i love to eat ).

I still have the stretch marks to prove it... which is A LOT! and not to mention my pictures from back in the day.

All it takes really is to find something u enjoy - a sport or hobby that makes u move around a lot. Don't do it coz u want to lose weight. Do it coz u enjoy it... and "losing weight" will just be a bonus.. or some kind of reward u get at the end of the week.

hmmm. im naturally big even as a kid. and still having issues with weight. when i was in highschool im relatively normal around 130 lbs and as soon as i get older say each year from 1st year to 4th year my weight increased from 130 to 160 lbs. as soon as i get to 2nd year in college my weight was 215 lbs. then i got more concerned with my weight and started dieting and exercise and reached 160lbs and became stable at 150 lbs for 3 years.

when i moved to cebu, all hell broke lose. from 150 lbs in 2006 and now im 220 lbs in 2011
now im dieting and more concerned with what i eat. as of today im 205 lbs sad that my metabolism ain't what it's used to.... hahay.... sucks.... one step at a time nalang hehehe.

ok ra ang running brad but not for the obese type, ky kuyaw kaau na sa joints nila...the leg joints are already stressed sa current state so adding up sa pressure every impact sa running will make matters worse...

try swimming pra lang may physical exercise to start with lang...then of course start eating smart...i cant get into the details kung unsaon jud...have a nuntritionist or doctor nlg cguro or check nyo ang thread n Xenoxorph that young man makes sense when it comes to nutrition... good luck folks!

i was borderline obese at one point, particularly august to november of last year. i'm still fat and overweight now, but i'm gradually losing weight and not borderline obese na. i'm stuck right now, my weight's fluctuating from 58-60kgs. mao rajud na. i'm still trying to find more time to insert more intense cardio kay sa pagka karon, wa pako naanad sa ako bag-o work schedule.

i went from 78kgs to what i am now, 58-60kgs. for the first two months, i was on a strict no-rice diet, wheat bread lang jud 2pcs per meal with sud-an, nya kung fried gani ang sud-an, i keep it to a minimum lang jud.

to match that, push-ups, crunches, squats ko in 5 sets. there's this app sa iphone nako, ako ra gisunod iya ipabuhat nako. nya during afternoons when i get home, zumba ko for 1 1/2 hrs. akong target is flat 50kg. wala man koy pics kaayo ui, ngita sa ko.
