Unlike Russia ilang aircraft carrier was designed without support ships like the US. It has anti-ship missiles & anti air defense system in one package.

Like I said a swarming sea skimming missiles will overwhelm any defense system the USN can offer.

mao gani ako point..missile coming from the Iranian missile boots could not get in closer to the courier group without being detected, as it would be defended with a layer of protection coming from the escorts..the Ticonderoga class ship or the arleigh burke class ship is fitted with aegis defenses system that can engage multiple incoming threats..

kung kita or ikaw kibaw sa capability sa Sunburst missile sa Iran and Russia..how much more ang US..and they for sure know how to deal with it..or with any kind of missile..

about sa IRAN vs US..any missile can inflict damage..but for sure US can handle this kind of situation.they have all the equipments necessary to defeat the enemy and besides a carrier would not be alone in case this things happen...

thats why they are called CVBG or Carrier Battle Group, it has vessel escort and a submarine tagging behind...

but there is no such thing as solid defense against surprise attack!

and beside ASM can be launch from anywhere, ship, truck, helicopter, plane..... what we really need is a BTH radar similar to what the australian, US and Russian did...

i cant go into details of how US could counter such attack coming from iran using sunburst missile or any other type of missle that could possibly sunk a carrier.coz ng rely lang pud ko sa akong nabasa..pro sure ko nga sila US naa na idea kung unsa ni..

@Hulagway as far i know defense against the SunBurn does not exist (it was designed to beat Aegis). The best defence they can have is to stay away in the Straight of Hormuz .

Actually the US tried to purchase Sunburn missiles to evaluate against their defence systems.

SM-2 improves the performance against low flying missile but it doesn't mean it can intercept the Sunburn.

The Sunburn missile has a very good counter measures / evasive maneuvers flying at hypersonic speed.

Ok let just say ma intercept.. here is the scenario..

In a battle group there are two aegis destroyer escort.

2 sunburn missiles will be fired each for the aircraft carrier, aegis1 and aegis2.

What will be the outcome of it? Im sure maka lusot lang ghapon.

@flanker - why fire one, the cost of a single sunburn missile isn't near an aircraft carrier. I say they'd fire the whole salvo on the aircraft carrier if they are really intent on sinking one. Aron mu freak out nang radar controller sa battle fleet. lol.

Or they could arm those with tactical warheads and wipe out everyhing thats floating on a mile wide radius.
