Russia got rid of carriers because they cost too much just too maintain while the actual strategic benefit for their fleet is minimal (The US only went to war againts 3rd world nations after ww2, and there were no nukes back during ww2 where carriers can freely move around and engage), So Russia invested on ballistic and attack subs instead, like what Brittain and France is doing.

Nuclear disarmament is only for show done by both US and Russia to boost international trust towards them, they probably converted those oversized ICBM warheads into smaller "conventional" missile warheads, tactical nukes that can be delivered via bomber or fighter/bomber, ever wondered why Russia still keeps those very old looking super sonic bombers that can fly very high? Even India is pouring money for research on supersonic ballistic missles that can carry so called conventionl warheads.

Propaganda is still the greatest weapon.

    Blackjack is hardly "old-looking".

Aquino: New warship represents PH’s renewed strength

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – President Benigno Aquino formally witnessed the docking of the BRP Gregorio del Pilar, the newest military acquisition of the Philippine government, at Pier 13 of the South Harbor in Manila on Tuesday.

In his speech, Aquino said the docking of the Hamilton class warship represents the renewed strength of the country’s Armed Forces towards protecting its coastlines and assets.

He assured the Armed Forces that the government will not stop in the acquisition of ships, helicopters and patrol crafts.

The vessel sailed for 33 days from California to the Philippines. It arrived in the country’s waters late Wednesday last week.

The vessel was transferred to the Philippine Navy just last May. The vessel, which was first commissioned by the US in 1967, departed San Francisco last July 18. It was manned by 13 officers and 82 enlisted personnel under Captain Alberto Cruz.

The main purpose of the ship is to defend the territory, particularly the exclusive economic zone in the West Philippine Sea or South China Sea, particularly in the Spratlys area.

The Hamilton replaces the Raja Humabon, a Cannon-class destroyer escort, which is probably one of the world’s oldest warships.

The vessel has gone through several wars including the Vietnam War, and led in the US narcotics operations in the Panama Canal.

It is believed that the ship was used for the largest drug bust in US history, where an estimated $600 million worth of cocaine was seized.

The machines of BRP Gregorio del Pilar have already been overhauled and refurbished.

Due to its classification as a weather high endurance cutter, its secondary roles will be in support for search and rescue.

In the Philippines they call it the Biggest Warship. well, in China they see it as an average fishing vessel.. Does our gov know how much does a single torpedo cost its $70,000 roughly P2.9 million. A single torpedo could sink this piece of crap... there is so much we could do with the P450million. They should have focused on infrastructure, better roads, better transportation system, increasing our energy production.. etc..we are not on war people.. stop wasting our money God d@mnit!!!

    *sigh*

Maybe you should step out of your airconditioned house and go to a rebel-infested area in Luzon or around here in Central Visayas. Better yet, go to Mindanao.

Why do you think we have Army detachments spread out in rural areas across the archipelago?
