Of course I am proud to be a Filipino, why should I not be?!
While I agree with captn_star that we should also take notice and commend every Filipino who in his own little way has been honest, hardworking, and trustworthy of his everyday living and have thus contributed in some ways to nation building. These are the unsung heroes that merits our hymn of praise too. However, TS I don't fully agree with you when you say that we shouldn't be proud when someone like Lea, Manny or whoever for that matter has made it big in their field only because they are their achievements and not ours. That's just such a very limiting and toxic view of being a proud Filipino. Yes, they may be an individual achievement, something that they have worked hard and long but we, as a nation, should also be proud of them in achieving such because it only shows that our race, no matter how others have tried to put it down (even by the Filipinos like you among others), is really a race that can compete globally and can be among the best if only we are given the opportunity, support and exposure.
Yes, I am a Filipino and I am proud to be one. We can be worldclass.Seriously!
