Unfortunately, you cannot sidestep this one. The issue here is a statement that you made:

there is a difference with being original and being an imitator

Now, please tell me, and the readers of this thread, is this statement an expression of fact, or merely your opinion?

Unfortunately so are you. That comment was meant to answer the comment made by noel_llapa, see below.

Da Vinci is the original creator of the Last Supper (thats a fact)... sure anybody can do it but do we praise those people who imitate other peoples work of art?

    A) You didn't answer the question.

Regardless if sarcasm is included or not, if I were an art critic or a museum creator, I would consider the statement that you made as an attack/criticism on my ability to practice my profession, and that is determining the value and importance/relevance of a work of art. And thus, I would be obliged to react accordingly, in defense of my profession.

Citing a fragment of Lisandro Claudio's blog...

...before I get to the article’s main contention, let me address the most facile argument in the history of art criticism, as the honor of making this argument belongs to the author of the Inquirer editorial. In an attempt at a witty aside, the author (of the editoral) claims “Poleteismo” is “unoriginal” “because Cruz merely recycled old Catholic calendars and commercial ads to make his artistic statement.”

Has the author not heard of Andy Warhol who showed that pastiche and the unique combination of existing images may constitute original art? If that’s too high tech, my grade 4 teacher told me there have been great collages in the history of art. This is a minor point, but it casts doubt on the author’s ability to determine artistic merit.

hahahaha you are missing my whole point...

anyways, i dont need to argue with you i just wanna share these photos

would you call the latter art too? im sorry but this is the first thing that came into my mind when i look at the poleteismo.

IMHO, there is a thin line between pastiche and plagiarism
