Shawn Marion will sit out DWTS

Now this is really unfortunate. Can you think of a more suave Dallas Mavericks player than Shawn Marion to take a run at "Dancing With The Stars?"

Man, that would have been something. TMZ.com reported Sunday that ABC sent an official invite to the Matrix (sure, now that he's a world champ) to be a participant on next season's show.

But Marion knows where his bread is buttered. Mavs owner Mark Cuban, a former participant on DWTS (and who actually stayed alive a lot longer than I ever dreamed) will pay Marion $8.2 million next season to defend the title, and Marion, a source told TMZ, doesn't want to be tied up just in case the NBA lockout ends and the season actually gets started on time with training camps opening in late September.

DWTS ends in November when the NBA regular season starts. Of course, preseason games go on throughout October.

But really, what are the odds the lockout is lifted in time for training camp?

I don't know about Matrix, but going on DWTS looks like a lot more fun than playing basketball in Turkey. Just ask Cuban.

China team offers Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki $1.5 million per month

NBA Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks has been offered $1.5 million per month to play for the Zhejiang Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association, according to the German newspaper Bild.

The Monday report called the offer the largest monthly sum offered to an NBA player since the lockout went into effect.

But don't be surprised if the German star turns down the mega-offer — he's nixed big money before, and his current focus is on helping his native country at the upcoming European Championships. Germany is seeking a berth in the 2012 Olympics.

In the past, Nowitzki has agreed to play four more years in Dallas for $20 million per season, instead of putting his name on the open market and fetching closer to $25 million per year.

He's also turned down several lucrative endorsement deals throughout his NBA career.
