For me, it's a
toss up between:
The
Oakland Raiders first Super Bowl victory 32-14 over the Minnesota Vikings (Super Bowl XI, January 1977, Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA) Raiders outgained Vikings on the ground 266 yards to 71. John Madden (now famous broadcaster and namesake of the ever-popular "Madden Football" video games) was the Raiders' coach and the Raiders' players said that lifting him on their shoulders and carrying him off the field (during the post-game celebration) was the hardest thing they had to do all day. You see, John Madden (even then) was a very heavy guy. It's hard to believe, by the way the Raiders are playing now, that they ever won any Super Bowls, heheh...but they have won three.
and:
The
N.Y. Yankees World Championship clinching 8-4 victory over the L.A. Dodgers in game 6 of the 1977 World Series, (October 1977, Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York), It was the Yankees 21st World Series Championship (they now have 26) but at the time, it had been 26 years since their previous one (1962). An awesome performance put on by Reggie Jackson (a.k.a. Mr October) of the Yankees. He hit three home runs in that game, each on the first pitch, off three different Dodgers' pitchers.... the last one travelled 450 feet from home plate. The NY Yankees have claimed 26 World Series Championships in their history (headed into the 2007 season).
