Gone are the Prayle days when a governor general can end up replaced whenever it goes against the will of the church. Don't be so naive as to think that the Catholic Church still has an overwhelming control over its constituents. If it did, then there wouldn't be any of these break-away "religions"(protestant,lutheran,born-again and what have you).
One cannot deny that a growing number of the sectarian citizenry have become more and more diversified and already have diversified away from Catholicism in search of "a better god" so to speak.
In its example of Bavaria being an economically sound German state yet still remain Catholic proves that Attitude also plays a critical role towards attaining economic success. If people refuse to work at it, then nothing great will certainly happen.
The bottom line is that it's too fatalistic to think and to blame Philippine Catholicism as the main culprit, enabler, or indirect cause of our current state of affairs.
It's so easy for people to point the finger to others but they can never seem to point the finger towards themselves....for shame!
