right decision..... right decision for choosing the green and white...
On the contrary, a lot of people did know Tallo, enough for him to warrant an announcement from the university website itself about his departure (it was later taken down though after the father cried foul to the local daily about the "character assassination" being made of his son). And while the Ateneans online only account for a small number and don't really speak for the school, you can really see a lot of them expressing dismay when the news came out. He was doing pretty good in practice and people noticed and got excited for the future. Scrubs don't generate that kind of attention. Had he been a "role-player" type, not too many people would've cared if he defected to DLSU.
You don't see too many Lasallians showing elation online yet because an official announcement hasn't been made, but the insiders know who Tallo is and they were pretty stoked when they heard of it. Some people behind Goarchers.com didn't want to believe it at first as not to get their hopes up but when it was confirmed they got pretty excited about it.
Understandably, we talk about Mac-Mac more here in iSTORYA because this is supposed to be a Cebuano/Bisaya forum. Is it a bad thing that the kid's decision (or his family's) is a hot topic here? He's one of our own, we've seen him grow up and develop his skills. Syempre ma-concerned gyud ta bisag gamay, ganahan ta kita niya mu-duwa.
You mentioned how the NBA stars felt the need to go overseas during the lockout just to play so they can stay sharp. And you mentioned that "practices can never mimic competition". Mao gani ni-hawa si Tallo kay gi-bangko ra siya. Again, maybe premature ang decision kay pre-season pa man to nga wala siya hatagi ug PT but we've seen enough precedents with the Norman Black system to be able to say with conviction that it was all but a certainty that Tallo won't be seeing the court too often had he stayed on the team. Can you cite any player since Black got the coaching job that he used as a "secret weapon" in the middle of the season that didn't get any PT during the pre-season? He uses the pre-season as a sort of dry run. And let's not misconstrue his heavy recruitment of Mac-Mac. Any coach would want the best talent available for his team. Almost everyone on that talented squad was a top recruit coveted by different schools but Black doesn't give everyone regular PT (think Justin Chua, Tiongson, even Vince Burke whom UP wanted and is now not on the Blue Eagle roster). It's not any different for Mac-Mac. Taga-Cebu lang siya mao nang larga gyud si Coach Norman.
It's too early to tell if the decision was a bad one. Let's wait til next year, when he gets to don the DLSU green and white. The way the DLSU guard corps is playing so far, I think only LA Revilla is a cinch. Tallo can easily nose out Vosotros and Sara for minutes. At least that's what I think.
hayzzzzz., mghuwat nlang ta ani next UAAP season f Macmac can play njud sa UAAP., bsan asa nga team gnahan ko mtan-aw sa iya dnuwaan gyud..
Coach Norman does hardly go the secret weapon route. He doesn't play a player until he is ready. Maybe Macmac wasn't ready simple as that. However look at how that has turned out. Guys like Arao, Al Husseini, Monfort, who were not on anyone's lists are now all solid bball players.
As to Macmac being "famous" Jick is correct outside of ADMU and bball insiders, noone knew of him. He wasn't openly "highly recruited".
He wasn't as touted as a recruit because every college recruiter knew who has been nurturing the career on Macmac since 3 years ago. Spending for his training, for the camps like where he got his MVP/NBA Jr., which allowed Macmac go to to the US, spending for his trips to Manila, food allowances, shoes etc. Noone could imagine that such a nice kid could turn out to be so ungrateful.
The few times I have met him, the guy who took care of him is one of the nicest persons I have ever known and I can see that this was heart wrenching to him. He opened his arms, his family, and his wallet to the Tallos and this is what he got in return.
Have the Tallos ever bothered to call him even just to explain?
so asa nani siya karon?
storya na cla katawa2 paman gani
I guess they don't care then. Sayang I would've at least expected some sort of effort on Mr. Tallo's part to settle things like a man.
Just be careful the people you use on your way up may be the same people you meet on your way down.
