JJ Barea & Zuleyka Rivera Are Having a Kid, So We Know How They Celebrated the Mavs’ NBA Title
JJ Barea and Zuleyka Rivera (Miss Universe, 2006) announced yesterday they’re having a baby. The Mavericks’ backup point guard has been dating the beauty queen for about 10 months. This was her statement to the media:
“All this took me by surprise, but I feel very lucky. I come from a very close family and I understand that a baby is a blessing. I’m sorry I had to leave this novel, it was another opportunity for my growth as an actress and achieve my professional goals. However, both JJ and I are happy to start a family together and I know God will reward us with a healthy baby and many more opportunities for both,"
Buried at the bottom was this note: Rivera is seven weeks pregnant.
Barea, you may recall, was most effective in the NBA Finals in games five and six, scoring 17 and 15 points, respectively, in Dallas wins to capture the title. The Mavericks won game six in Miami on Sunday June 12. Well, we know how these two celebrated.

It's Official: Nowitzki Will Play For Germany In Lithuania
FRANKFURT, Germany — Dirk Nowitzki says he will play for Germany at the upcoming European Championship when Olympic berths will be at stake.
The Dallas Mavericks forward says the break after the NBA finals was brief, but he'd "like to help the young German team have success."
Nowitzki led the Mavericks to the NBA championship over the Miami Heat and was named the series MVP.
The European Championship is Aug. 31-Sept. 18 in Lithuania. The two finalists qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London. Germany is in a group with France, Italy, Serbia, Latvia and Israel.

Caron Butler’s agent says the Mavs want a long-term deal
There are a couple things that could make Dallas better next season — whenever that is — than the team that just got to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy over their heads.
One is the return of Caron Butler from knee surgery. Do you know what the best starting five-man unit in the entire NBA was last season? It was the Dallas starting five before Butler went down for the season (Jason Kidd, DeShawn Stevenson, Dirk Nowitzki, and Tyson Chandler), their plus/minus was the best in the league.
While there will be some roster changes next season, Butler wants to come back and be part of the team making another run. His agent told ESPN Dallas the Mavs want Butler back long term.
“After the championship was over,” (Butler’s agent Raymond) Brothers said, “Donnie (Nelson, Mavs GM) texted me and told me he wanted Caron to be part of the team long term…
“His preference is to stay with Dallas and help them compete for a championship,” Brothers said. “We are optimistic and hopeful that we’ll come to an agreement that works for both sides.”
Butler is in Chicago working with NBA fitness guru Tim Grover to get the strength back in his leg. There will be some other teams calling about Butler, but if there is mutual interest Dallas would seem the likely landing spot. That said Nelson can’t comment on this and can’t talk to Brothers during the lockout. Also, we have no idea what Dallas will be able to offer under the new labor agreement.
Still, he shouldn’t sell is Dallas area home yet. He’ll likely be using it again.
