When Voldemort Crucioed Harry in the forest after Narcissa revealed he is dead, Voldemort casted Crucio on Harry multiple times, but Harry never felt the pain.
And it was because Harry is the master of the Elder Wand and the Elder Wand refuses to hurt it’s master. And that is why in the Great Hall later on, Voldemort’s curse backfired and hit him, because the Elder Wand refused to kill Harry.
Why did the wand kill Harry in the first place then?
It was because Harry went in with the intention of getting himself killed. The Elder Wand protected him whenever he needed that protection, and when he was not willing to take that protection the wand acted upon it’s masters desire and that is why the spell worked the first time around.
The Elder Wand, though not unbeatable, sure has it’s own “mind” which is far greater than those of regular wands and that is what makes it so desirable.
