Argentina's claim to The Falklands is based on it being 4-500 miles from their coast. Well, too bad for them the Brits got there first. The population have been asked time and again about what they wish for the future and the answer is always the same.... British protection. By the way any oil that may be discovered in that area (nothing significant yet) belongs to the Falkland Islanders themselves and not the UK government.
That's from an article in Wikipedia that was recently edited running in 3-4 months exactly the same time the Falkland issue came up again. As for me I've lost trust in just about anything being put up in the Internet that points to a known active political issue. Misinformation and Propaganda goes hand in hand.

If that's true then its the same situation of the PH claiming the spratly's by basis of them being closer to the PH then..

@Faeries - That guy is a dumbass, currently and although powerless atleast we dont have nukes aimed at us for having some of our own. Bringing nukes here will only result in a nuclear standoff like what happend to the US and Cuba.

If we get wacked in war let it be over extinction and an unlivable radioactive waste land.

@wikki: Would that mean China will not benefit from Spratly either? Because I would personnaly prefer that than doing nothing, and by just being stupid and proud.

By the way, you said stand-off. Definitely Cuban Missile Crisis scenario.
But then in that case, the question is: Who is baiting whom? Who will gonna take the bait?

Considering US history and its ability to find fault with other states, the Philippines could just be a pawn a bait if you may say.

Wikipedia isn't always reliable. The information I gave to you is factually correct, I could give you historical dates, but that's going too far for a somewhat off-topic conversation.

The problem with China is that the areas they are claiming give no consideration to the standard territorial waters (12 nautical miles) and exclusive economic zone (200 nautical miles) which most coastal nations enjoy. Furthermore China says they want to settle the issue through diplomacy while at the same time declaring that the matter is non-negotiable and proceeding to erect structures and militarily harassing local shipping.

Historically these things have been settled through conflict and any nation which has occupied a place for a significant time has the upper hand both legally and (subject to defensive investment) strategically.

Actually kani nga issue karon sa Spratyls did2 ni nag start sa deportation of Taiwanese nationals.

Fact 1: The Philippine Govt tried to court China by deporting Taiwanese nationals to PRC without notifying Taiwan.

Fact 2: In return for Filipino's not to be executed, but China rejected the idea.

Fact 3: It backfires as Taiwan counters against Philippines.

Fact 4: Philippines made a lot of noise against China and went back to Uncle Sam after kicking their @ss out in the 90s.

Kani issues karon wala ni ng gawas unta if gi release sa China ang katong 3 ka Filipino criminals.

My opinion - Gipadako rani ang issue sa Philippine Govt which can be solved b1laterally + gisakyan sa US .

These things are true and reinforce the West's belief that The Philippines lacks a coherent foreign policy. I've even heard this place referred to as a tinderbox.
