There is a lot to like about the little Fiesta but the front fascia is not one of its strengths, however, the rest of the exterior evokes a sense of fluidity. You could feel that engineers spent a great deal amount of time in designing it but i guess less time is spent up front. Its very subjective I know. This is how i see it. They shud have made the front grill smaller and get that huge plastic thing off. Its way too big. You cud swallow a cow with that thing.
Anyhow, that minor glitch in design is made up by having a very responsive engine. It's a sad thing though that the transmission is not that very giving. Though i like the smoothness of the dual clutch, where upshifts are smoother than the Jazz and the Mazda 2, i miss the gear on demand of the jazz thru the paddle shifters. Driving the fiesta, steering is direct and responsive though a tad light on the feel but it still makes you confident in attacking the twisties.
What i love about the fiesta is the interior. Though not as cavernous and dynamic as the Jazz, the materials used and the amenities are a lot better. Shouts out PREMIUM. Voice control of the audio system is a welcome addition lacking from its other top competitors. The seats provides a lot of cushion for your bottoms especially on long drives but the lateral support, though present, is quite lacking. But, as cars of this class is not made to be driven aggressively, then its not that big a deal. The rear seats have ample legroom though smaller than that of the jazz's and, people taller than 5'5", better stay in the front seats as you will be having a stiff neck when you get out from the rear seats after just a quick trip to the grocery and back. And, unlike the Jazz, the rear backrests dont fold flat which is a bit of a letdown.
So, to sum it all up, with my few hours of driving the fiesta, i have come to a conclusion. If there is no Jazz, then this is the car i would buy. With its slick dual clutch transmission and an eager engine in a shell that's aggressive in every angle, well.... except the front end, again, i really dont like their design or is it that i just didnt get them. Enough of that, but i really cant help myself thinking how much injustice the design of the front end does to the rest of the car. Get over it, well... Where am i? O yeah, good clutch, even better engine, aggressive styling except.... Well, to keep this review short, i give this mean machine a score of 7 out of 10. It wud have been an 8 if not for.... O stop it already. I really hope ford reads this. Hehehehe
