KANUS-A MAN INTAWON MAG UPGRADE ANG CEBU COLISEUM? UNYA NA'G NAA NA'Y SM CEBU ARENA

NCAA adopts unique ticketing system, eyes SM Arena
By Olmin Leyba (The Philippine Star) Updated June 24, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (0)

MANILA, Philippines - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) yesterday announced big plans ahead, coming up with an environment-friendly ticketing system for the 87th season and tapping a new, state-of-the-art venue for next year’s hostilities.

In keeping with the league’s “going green” thrust, NCAA policy board president Anthony Jose Tamayo and athletic director Michael del Mundo of host Perpetual Help signed an agreement with SM Ticketing’s Henry Lapis, West Avenue Theaters Corp’s Edgar Tejerero, San Juan Vice Mayor Francis Zamora and The Arena general manager Lyn Manansala for a ticket-on-demand scheme for this year’s games.

“This is our answer to the issue on unsold tickets building up and kept in storage every year. With our new ticket-on-demand service, we can save on paper, help save trees, and make the NCAA a green league,” del Mundo said in the signing/press conference at the SM Mall of Asia IMAX Theater.

Aside from providing the ticketing service for the NCAA season that begins July 2, the SM Group will also help the country’s oldest collegiate league and the Arena market its activities at various SM malls.

“We are committed to help provide full marketing support for the NCAA and the San Juan Arena. We’ll help them promote their activities in our cinemas, website, and on-ground at the malls,” Tejerero said.

The NCAA, through Fr. Vic Valvo, athletic director of Season 88 host Letran, and the SM Group also made public a partnership that will bring the NCAA games to the soon-to-be-opened Mall of Asia Arena next year.

“We’d like to try something new and give both athletes and fans a good experience in the state of the art Mall of Asia Arena,” said Calvo, who considered the 20,000-seater venue a prime venue for the league’s major games.

“Its proximity is a prime consideration, being that most of our member schools are located in this area. And number two, we want fans and viewers to be comfortable.”

Mall of Asia Arena will open in May 2012, featuring prime equipment and amenities for both sports and entertainment.

well we don't know yet bro if most stupid decision ba jud ni ang gihimo ni tallo bro. naa pa man daghan team sa manila guro nga nag apas pud sa service tallo. Not only nga ateneo lang.

basta dili lang magpabilin si tallo sa cebu payts ra kaau.

kay for me mas nindot ang competition sa manila compare sa cebu. training sad mas nindot sa manila.

so as of now dili pa jud ta maka ingon nga most stupid decision ang gihimo ni tallo.

then wala pa sad jud ta kabalo sa reason why nihawa siya sa ateneo..

The bulldogs need a better point guard because Labingisa is undersized and Terso is erratic. Jayven could fill the slot easily, playing time and all. No question about his ability to play the position. The question is why isn't N.U. courting him?

Kung sa DLSU lang siya mu-adto, Ravena vs. Tallo? IF it happens Ravena will win hands down. Kiefer plays more maturely and has learned to be his own man. Monfort and Tiongson will be the guys that will make life miserable for Jayven. The Archers is a team in the process of rebuilding.... wrong team for him to join, murag demotion man ang mugawas. Akoa pa, mag CIT na lang siguro siya.... prove his mark by bringing the wildcats to Cesafi glory then just like Greg... return to Ateneo when he is ready. This time humbler and wiser for the better. At 17, he still has 8 years to play in the UAAP, which allows players to play until they are 25. Think of Chris Tiu as an example.
1.) On the contrary, NU was very much in the Mark Tallo sweepstakes.

    SHS-Ateneo scores second straight win
By Gabby G. Malagar (The Freeman) Updated August 14, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (0)

CEBU, Philippines - The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles smothered the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens, 89-62, for their second straight victory in the secondary division of the 11th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) season yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Earlier, defending champion Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons devoured the smaller and all-rookie laden University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors, 95-65.

Leading most of the way, the Magis Eagles saw their big lead chopped to just five points, 62-57, with still plenty of time to spare in the fourth period.

Sensing danger, the Magis Eagles exploited their height advantage to make sure there would be no rallying magic for the Wildkittens.

Aaron Sing drilled in a 3-pointer to spark Ateneo's spirited rally. Dawn Ochea, Julius Cadavis and Joshua Ong later joined the fray to restore their imposing 72-57 lead.

Ochea and Cadavis scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Magis Eagles, while Dave Yu and Sing chipped in 23 markers combined. They have now sport a 2-0 win-loss record as against the Wildkitten's 1-1.

Jeraldvin Delima, one of CIT-U's big men, topscored with 19 points even as three other teammates finished in double figures.

Earlier, Alfred Anecito Sedillo led the 1-1 Dragons with 25 points, while Luther Huevos and Michael Lorenzo Balankig added 16 and 11 points.

The 0-2 Baby Warriors were led by Ian Ortega with 22 markers but none of his teammates scored more than six points. (FREEMAN)

CESAFI Caging, Warriors Shock Cobras Ni Gabby G. Malagar (The Freeman) Updated August 15, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (0)

CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors pulled one of the biggest upsets in the 11th season of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament late Saturday.

The Warriors came from behind to pull the rug from under early favorite Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras, 65-63, at the Cebu Coliseum.

In the other collegiate game, nine-time champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers eased into a tie of the lead after toying with Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 71-63.

The Warriors raced from 11 points down midway through the fourth quarter and used a paralyzing 10-0 run to outscore the Cobras 16-3 in the final stretch to pull the win.

Celebrated Cobras’ rookie Justin Aboude gave his team their last taste of the lead after he split his charities off a foul by Sam Hermosa, 61-59, still 1:37 left.

When Aboude was fouled again by Hermosa, his fifth resulting to his fouling out, the rest of the Warriors joined Hermosa in protesting the call. They claimed it was Aboude, who initiated the contact.

The foul later turned out to be a good one to give as Aboude bungled both attempts.

The Warriors grabbed the lead for the first time when Giovanni Padillo drained a crucial triple, 62-61, time down to the final one minute.

Padillo later scored three more three throws for the Warriors to help his team in scoring an upset.

After taking a 12-10 edge at the end of the first period, the Warriors also led at the turn, 28-27 until the Cobras made a reversal in the third period.

SWU’s biggest lead was at 11 points when Rene Pacquaio completed a three-point play at the 5:16 mark of the final canto.

Padillo led the Warriors with 16 points while June Michael Cantonao, who was part of the furious comeback late in the fourth quarter, added 14 points while Nilton John Otida added 12 points.

The Warriors who now hold a 1-1 win-loss record were just fortunate enough the Cobras missed three straight attempts in the final one minute including two missed free throws by Bernie Bregondo and two close-to-the-basket shots from Aboude and Eleazar Armecin.

Pacquiao who did not finish the game because of a minor injury, led the Cobras also with 16 points while Aboude and Bonifacio Guillena, Jr. added 11 and 10 points as they spoiled the CESAFI coaching debut of Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba.

Earlier, Edrian Lao was unstoppable at the post and led the 2-0 Lancers with 17 points. The Lancers are now tied at the top spot with idle University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, who are in Shenzhen, China to campaign in the 26th Universiade, a gathering of university athletes worldwide.

Allan Dimco also finished with 17 points to lead the Wildcats while Floyd Taboada added 15 markers.

    The scores:

    First Game:

    UV (Coll.) 71 – Lao 17, Silva 13, Cincoflores 10, Abad 9, Rios 4, Saycon 4, Premacio 4, Mendoza 4, Kadir 2, Perolino 2, Mercader 2

    CIT-U (Coll.) 63 – Dimco 17, Taboada 15, Batiquin 9, Curso 6, Sanchez 5, Rabaya 4, Taghoy 2, Infante 2, Nazareno 2
