Default Is Rock n Roll really dead?

Hold on.... wasn't Black Flag/ Henry Rollins/Rollins Band AGGRESSIVE with his/their Political Stance ?? So's the old school CIRCLE JERKS stuff.... I talked to some "PUNKS" about this topic and I remember them talking about Henry Rollins' and how important he was to the HARDCORE scene.

yeah... black flag with henry rollins played a crucial role in the hardcore scene but for me black flag plays straight punk (w/ aggressive political lyrics but i dont think they play HC) just like dead kennedys (who also played a role in the HC scene) now the 3rd most influential band (HC scene) is minor threat (w/ ian mckaye) now minor threat is hardcore...

    analogy

rude boys (ska) influenced OI!. OI! influenced HC.now ska is the root of HC but they sound different right? a ska band is not a HC band though ska directly influenced HC.

black flag is not an HC band though they influenced HC directly

this is just my opinion... meaning i'm open to corrections. thanks

But as far as definition goes... BLACK FLAG fits right on the dot.... so I can't think of them other than being a HARDCORE band (SPIN magazine also labels them as such).

definition lyrics wise but not musically... emo bands play songs about heartbreaks so as backstreet boys but backstreet boys is not an emo band... but i respect ur opinion ezra and i respect ur knowledge... di ta ma human if we talk about genres coz genres are nothing but labels... and anybody can claim that this is their genre or what not... it's all music in the long run

Same here... I don't pay attention about genre's and sub genre's at all... that's why I used the term ROCK or ROCK AND ROLL to cover a whole lot to escape the hassles of explaining the exact type of music a band plays. Unya sa karong panahona.. there's soooo many genre's and sub-genre's ang music nga usahay nag overlap na sila....
That's why ug PUNK NIGHT sa CBGB, mga OI, HARDCORE, SKINHEADS, bla bla bla, etc... magkita kita ra sa usa ka lugar kay para nila, it always boils down to one thing.. It's all about the Music.

Di man sab ma classify ang music sa usa ka banda kay chances are, every now and then mo suwat sab na silag kanta nga layo sa ilang "genre".

I say ROCK and ROLL is the MAIN ROOT . From there came the punk rock , rap metal , grunge , heavy metal , slow rock , alternative , death , pop etc . , even some country music have influences on ROCK and ROLL . SO basically ... ROCK is still alive and kicking !!

Rock n' roll is not dead. It will never be. It just evolved.

I totally agree with you on this. Rock n' roll evolution such as Badlands (Jake E. Lee's band right after he left Ozzy) was KICK A$$!

It's just a matter of taste differences and self-education on the genre. Most young people today tend to forget where the music they're listening to now came from.
