Tallo leaves Ateneo: Right or Wrong Move?

Basketball requires hard work and even more patience. Even Michael Jordan himself had to prove to his high school coach that he was worthy of playing time. If the GOAT preaches patience, practice, and hard work, who are we to say no to that?

Ana gyud na ang basketball, maski na maayo pa ta sa atong lugar, di na pasabot nga maayo ta sa pikas baryo. Sayang lang kaayo ang oportunidad nga gipalapas, prestihiyoso man gud na nga unibersidad ang Ateneo. Sus, daghang tawo nagmahay diri kay daghang ganahan unta makatilaw moduwa sa varsity team sa Ateneo. Maghuwat ra gyud ka sa imong panahon, ipakita nimo sa imong coach imong determinasyon ug duwa kada praktis.

If you are paid, given a high quality education, or given luxuries to play the game you love, you better have the right mentality for it. There are millions of guys out there who would trade places with you in a heartbeat.

Good luck to him in his future endeavors. We all wish him well.

Agree with this gyud. If he really wanted to leave, he couldve handled the situation better.

Theres also the question of whether he will be able to play for another school immediately with the residency rules. Worst case is, masayang 1yr sa iyang playing career...

I think the dad ni tallo ang nag buot buot ani tanan. For other schools, delikado ni nga freshman pa lang unya magpa presyo na ug in-ana.

Macmac was never officially enrolled. He never submitted his HS transcripts so he was never issued official student papers.

IF I were a conspiracy theorist I would wonder why a student who was going to get a scholarship not submit his transcripts/finish his enrollment. The day he left for Cebu was the week of the OrSem/Orientation Seminar Week which is required of all Freshman (inc Tallo and Ravena), all other students would have been enrolled at this point. Yet his papers (HS transcript of all things) were not yet submitted.

IF I were a conspiracy theorist murag dugay na gi-huna huna mulakaw gikan Ateneo. Maybe the free training in the US (enrolment in that training course I hear is >P60K exclusive of plane fare and accomodation, Kahibao ko ni hangyo si papa Tallo na i-apil siya sa trip/budget. I don't know kung nadayun ba to) and free trip for the exhibition game to Dubai were not enough?

when Mark matures diha na siya maka realize siguro if nasayop siya sa iya decision to leave or not. For now i believe dili ni 100% iya nga decision, teenager pa siya dako pa kaayo influence para niya ang decision sa iya parents. Leaving the team nga murag wala lang just proves nga immature iya gibuhat. or sure it was not easy for him nga dili makaduwa considering for him it might be the biggest stage for him now at present ang UAAP. In my own opinion it would have been better if he give it 1 year, adjust usa siya sa academics sa Ateneo while doing the thing that he loves most which is basketball, cause it will not be easy for him either ang standard sa Ateneo bisan maayo pa ka, just what happened to Buenafe.

Why my son left ADMU, by Mark Tallo

To the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) administration, I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude for their support and guidance to Mark Jayven "Mac-Mac" Tallo for his entire two month stay in Manila.

Before anything else, I would like to congratulate Coach Norman Black for bagging the championship title in the recently concluded Fil-Oil pre-season basketball league. He is indeed a very good coach.

However, with the current relations that my son has with ADMU, I am somewhat disappointed with the information Coach Black has relayed to the press in Manila and in Cebu with regards to how my son left ADMU to return to Cebu. He distorted so many facts that my son came out as the bad guy in the whole situation.

For the record, I never wished for instant stardom for my son and we never asked for specific minutes of playing time. I never even took part in the negotiation when my son was recruited to the ADMU team.

It was Mr. Jack Huang (ADMU alumni president-Cebu chapter, and respected alumni in Manila) who relayed to me the information regarding their plan for my son if he joins ADMU. Jack Huang's said that Coach Black would use Mac-Mac as soon as possible because Emman Monfort was set to graduate last March.

When I went to Manila together with the CEC Dragons, Coach Black told me that he will really use Mac-Mac because of the departure of Monfort, but he did not specify any playing time. He insisted on using Mac-Mac because they will have no point guard this school year. Honestly, Coach Black has so many unfilled promises to my son.

My son was left sitting on the bench most of the time, even against the weakest of teams that they were playing during the pre-season games (Fil-Oil and Fr. Martin's Tournament).

He was not even included in the practice rotation. I was in Manila last June 3 to 5, and Coach Black did not talk to me regarding my son's situation. I asked Paulo Trillo (ADMU team amanger) for his status and all he told me was that my son is OK.

On June 6, before the game against Mapua, Coach Black said words to my son about his impatience for instant stardom and that he should wait for everyone to graduate before he gets a chance to play on the court. My son felt insulted and embarrassed, so right after the game, he packed up his things and left. Where were Coach Black's promises about husing him, I will never know.

The administration keeps contacting us even up to now for Mac-Mac's return to ADMU. As of the moment, we have offers from other teams in Manila but we have to settle this issue with ADMU before we choose what university is best for my son.

Dili mi-related. I just know for a fact that he never submitted his transcripts, so officially never siya naka enrol.
