    Default GPS in the Philippines

    Continuation of https://www.istorya.net/forums/softwa...ilippines.html

I thought I'd see how Garmin's own City Navigator® Southeast Asia NT (v6.5) compares to Roadguide.ph's contributor version (v1.25)

    Cagayan de Oro City

    City Navigator

    Roadguide.ph

    Cebu City

    City Navigator

    Roadguide.ph

    Davao City

    City Navigator

    Roadguide.ph

    Makati City

    City Navigator

    Roadguide.ph

    Quezon City

    City Navigator

    Roadguide.ph

Except for Cagayan de Oro City, City Navigator seems to provide more street details and POIs than Roadguide.ph. But the errors and double POIs in City Navigator are also abundant.

I can't give a routing comparison between the two since I didn't test yet which gives more reasonable routes.

Just get a Smartphone and load up Google Maps. Viola! However, you have to note that you need to be in a 3G area and have prepaid load or willing to be charged monthly with the data usage.

I'm using iPhone 4 and the built in Maps works great for me.
No charges are applied. All you need to do is download the map by connecting to a wifi.
After which, ok na imo maps even if you're no longer connected to a wifi.
This has aided me a lot especially if I'm not familiar with the place.
Downside though is that the available maps are only detailed for major cities. Suburbs will only show the roads and most of the time no labels anymore.

Good day! May i know what specific apps for navigation you're using sir? i'm looking for one that doesn't need a 3G or wifi connection for my iPod Touch.

I'm only using the built in Maps app sa iPhone. It needs an internet connection at first para ma download ang map sa imong current location. After which, pwede na siya wala internet connection. One thing to note is you can no longer zoom in or out sa map if wala na ka internet connection.

I you have an Android smartphone, you can enable Google Maps to store map data to cache so you can use it offline.

if you have a gps enabled nokia phone, ovi maps seems to work. i tried it last time i was in cebu. it will get you to the general area of where you want to be (street), but not exact house number. except of course if you saved the gps coordinates of your target location (ex: your house).
