Here's a little history for you and to those who share your views.

The Knights Templar were a monastic military order formed at the end of the First Crusade with the mandate of protecting Christian pilgrims on route to the Holy Land. Never before had a group of secular knights banded together and taken monastic vows. In this sense they were the first of the Warrior Monks.

From humble beginnings of poverty when the order relied on alms from the traveling pilgrims, the order would go on to have the backing of the Holy See and the collective European monarchies.

Within two centuries they had become powerful enough to defy all but the Papal throne. Feared as warriors, respected for their charity and sought out for their wealth, there is no doubt that the Templar knights were the key players of the monastic fighting orders. Due to their vast wealth and surplus of materials the Templars essentially invented banking, as we know it. The church forbade the lending of money for interest, which they called usury. The Templars, being the clever sort they were, changed the manner in which loans were paid and were able to skirt the issue

So I guess it's pointless to criticize the Church's stake in the bank then since the were literally one of the pioneers of the concept.

What is more important is how they intend to use the funds being the kind of organization that they are.

Personally, I think they should put up more Piarists.

Actually, if you read Dan Brown's Angels & Demons, there was mention about papal law that if people chant a priest's name as if in a trance, that priest becomes the new pope by grace. (or something to that effect) This, of course, is fact although it is placed in the fictional context of the book. Mao daw sa usa ka scene didto the news reporter said there were technically two popes that night.

So yes, on exceptional occasions we DO have a say on who votes.

mao. it may not be income tax for the church (although RCC doesn't do this) but it is we who suffer, why? Because that deduction is from your NET PAY. If gross pay na siya dili sakit kai tax break na sa ato! Mao nang sakit ana!

Yep, the church IS a form of government. In fact, I see it as some sort of "proxy gov't" in lawless & disorganized places. The problem is it has overlapped modern governments, which makes the church very ambiguous in today's society.
