Terry was asked about the Miami defense, appropriately enough since it has held the Mavericks to 42 percent shooting and 88.3 points per game in the Finals.

He replied by saying that Portland had the best defense of the four teams Dallas has faced in the playoffs.

Terry is shooting just 38.2 percent, and hasn't made a shot when LeBron James has been guarding him in the fourth quarter.

"I'm welcoming the challenge," Terry said of James. "We're going to see if he can do it for seven games."

Before the series, they were shown tape of more than 20 situations in which Wade didn't get back on defense, after believing he was fouled. Stevenson didn't just reveal this strategy to one reporter; he repeated it several times during the open media sessions, using the word "overreacting" in reference to Wade. Stevenson added the Mavericks are careful not to foul with too much force, because the Heat players are "great actors."

Wade's response?

"I have no comment on that," Wade said. "We'll talk about that at the end of the series."
