    Capitol completes new school buildings
By Jose P. Sollano/JPM (The Freeman)

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Government was able to finish the construction of more school buildings as one of the priority programs under the administration of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Capitol consultant on information Rory Jon Sepulveda said that Gov. Garcia had anticipated the problem, prompting her to allocate funds for the construction of new school buildings.

The Capitol undertook the building of new classrooms for public elementary and high schools although this is a responsibility mainly of the National Government, after a recommendation of the Local School Board and the officials of the Department of Education-Cebu Province.

Sepulveda said they hoped that the problem has been minimized in time for the opening of classes this week.

More than 600 classrooms were constructed by the Provincial Government and are now used by the public elementary and high schools in Cebu province.

Gov. Garcia, in a previous interview with The FREEMAN, said that the construction of new school buildings is one of her priority programs.

She said that during her visits to different barangays, she noticed the inconvenience of the students in their run down school buildings.

She cited the situation of Bantayan National High School-Patao Extension when she visited there last year.

“Pait kaayo ang sitwasyon sa mga tinun-an sa maong lugar, mora’g tangkal sa manok, apan karon nasulbad na nato,” she said.

The Provincial Government constructed two units of two-classroom buildings in the said campus.

During her last visit to Medellin and the island municipalities of Santa Fe, Madridejos and Bantayan, Gov. Garcia inaugurated at least 10 new school buildings. — THE FREEMAN
