A full-scale war with a known US ally would be of no benefit to China. if they do occupy the Philippines, they'll be dragged into an even more costly guerrilla warfare, which I'm proud to say, Filipinos would excel at. US tanks and air superiority were no match against a determined and highly mobile Viet Cong, who knew the terrain and had the population's support. The Philippines has an almost identical climate and terrain to Vietnam, and I believe the outcome would be no different from the Vietnam War. Attrition would be on our side.

^Dili gihapon bro kay even if China controlled the skies (like the US did in Vietnam, and Russia in Afghanistan), it would still be their ground troops who would do the actual occupation. So unless they plan on wiping the Philippine Archipelago out of the map with nukes, their ground troops would still have to take the Philippines meter by bloody meter. Anyway, I don't think China would completely dominate the skies since the US has Naval bases and carriers on patrol all over South East Asia. And oh, let's not forget the tiny island of Taiwan which happens to have in its arsenal dozens of F-16s. And Taiwan HATES China.
