CEBU, Philippines - Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has pledged to build twenty classrooms for Mandaue City.
Governor Garcia made the announcement and pledge during the 41st Charter Day celebration of Mandaue City where outstanding businessmen in the city were recognized for their contribution to the development of the city.
The awarding night was held at the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City.
Garcia said she is convinced by Mayor Cortes’s enthusiasm in providing a program geared towards the education of children.
Garcia said aside from the twenty classrooms, the Capitol will also provide school bags and school supplies to public elementary and high school students.
“Magpadayon kita nga magpaluyo sa programa ni Mayor Jonas Cortes alang sa kalambuan sa Dakbayan sa Mandaue ilabi na gayud kabahin sa pagpalambo sa edukasyon,” Garcia said.
Garcia said aside from education, the provincial government will also support priority programs of the city.
Cortes, for his part, said the many issues facing public schools today are the lack of books in schools libraries, sanitation, old and dilapidated buildings, clean drinking water for the students, and the need for additional classrooms to accommodate the ever increasing student population.
“Dilapidated buildings are slowly but surely being repaired to give our students a more conducive atmosphere for learning,” Mayor Cortes said.
Mayor Cortes said because education is such an important aspect in development of a society, many of their friends from the private sector, non-governmental organizations such as the Aboitiz Group Foundation Inc., AGFI, Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and PCBP have donated classrooms.
“No amount of words can ever repay you for your generosity, may this inspire others to stand up and be counted as one in nation building,” Cortes said. - THE FREEMAN
