Default Re: Miriam wants Gibo to be the next Ombudsman

^ Even if Gibo will accept this offer, he can't be appointed as Ombudsman as per Sec. 4 of EO No. 243.

Sec. 4. The Ombudsman and his Deputies shall be natural-born citizens of the Philippines, and at the time of their appointment, at least forty years old, of recognized probity and independence, and members of the Philippine Bar, and must have not have been candidates for any elective office in the immediately preceding election. The Ombudsman must have for ten years or more been a judge or engaged in the practice of law in the Philippines.

Gibo Teodoro ran for President of the Philippines last May 2010 election
Teodoro had been a lawyer for seven years at the EP Mendoza Law firm.

It is very clear on the requirement, "must have not have been candidates for any elective office in the immediately preceding election". And that is the "2010 election". It doesn't say after 1 year just like appointing Mar Roxas.

Are you sure with your statement? Take a look at this.

The Constitution also bars Teodoro from being appointed ombudsman. The Constitution states: "The ombudsman and his deputies... at the time of their appointment must not have been candidates for any elective office in the immediately preceding election."

The constitutional prohibition was seconded by House justice committee chairman Niel Tupas Jr. and other congressmen.

"Gibo might be disqualified because under the Constitution, the ombudsman must not have been a candidate for any elective office in the immediately preceding election," he said in a text message.

I'm all for it!!! I voted for this guy and I really believe he's one of the brightest politician we have, too bad he end up running the Presidency prematurely. He knows he will not win, being the candidate of GMA is really not good thing. I also knew then he will not win but voted for him nevertheless.

I really want him to be a senator first but being an Ombudsman is a good position, of course nothing beats an office elected by the people. Good luck to GIBO.
