Its not the board, its the memory controller on the CPU.
it would mean changing its memory controller thus maybe a change in pin count so a new socket...maybe AMD doesn't want to go that route...maybe they do not like the higher bandwidth/higher latency thinghymy opinion...
its pretty obvious that AMD is staying away from triple channel..as simoko said AMD doesnt want to take that route.![]()
its very clear that memory performance is only noticable mostly in synthetic benchmarks.. so why take the hassle in replacing its current memory controllers and make things more complicated?
why kha dli sila makig compete with the intel based systems with the triple channel. d man jd kha palupig ning amd. ehehe
.. what jd kha ang reason dli jd sila mo take route ana nga features. ?
ang triple channel sa Intel is on the i7 Nehalem platform ra pud baya...even the new SandyB is dual channel...the coming LGA2011 4P processors from Intel will be quad-channel na...
its not that dili mo compete ang AMD sa Intel...economically speaking it would not be a wise decision for them...
I might be mistaken but triple channel kits have low latency modules like 8-8-8 2000Mhz or even 7-7-7. The first generation i7 was design around memory bandwidth and latency, SB is purely bandwidth.
AMD is staying away as they cannot afford to redesign a new IMC, R&D+Financial constraints.
True, but there are some applications that take advantage of higher memory bandwidth, Im sure you know that.
Reason is R&D and Financial constraints, Intel's R&D division is bigger/richer than AMD as a whole company. AMD cant do any screw ups this time around ( like what they did for the last couple of years ) they cant afford to add anything fancy.. Tri-Channel mem shouldnt be a concern.. Whats gonna hit AMD is when Intel shifts to 22nm with the tri-gate transistor and AMD is just starting its 32nm manufacturing.

+1 for this thread. Been asking myself y. Now i know!![]()
fyi
Scheduled to be released in the third quarter of this year, AMD's Bulldozer-based server chips will be slightly different then their desktop counterparts as they use modified sockets as well as a four-channel memory controller, according to a company representative.Bulldozer is AMD's next generation high-performance computing architecture, which will be used in the company's upcoming desktop and server CPU lines, early AMD reports suggesting that an eight core Bulldozer CPU is about 50% faster than an Intel Core i7 processor.
