LiveLeak.com - Vancouver Canada dog: 10 years on a chain
Dog rescued after spending 10 years tied to a chain outside • videosift.com
10 years on a chain. No blanket, toy, or bone. Often no clean food or water. AAS first saw her at night, lying in the frozen mud, being snowed and sleeted on. Lying in her own feces, surrounded by her own excrement
A poor, neglected, old pet dog in Vancouver has been rescued after spending her last ten years in indignity, fenced up and on a short chain, her name crudely spray painted on a urine-soaked, dilapidated kennel.
Ten years makes up the entire lifespan of most dogs.
The pet, named Judas by her owners, carried out her sentence often forced to walk around and sleep on her own faeces, to the point that it dried in heavy clumps on her tail and legs. As a result, wagging her tail and walking became very difficult, leading to severe arthritis.
She was malnourished, barely had enough water, and was never, ever permitted to leave the chain or socialise with other living creatures.
The most astonishing part of this story is that she was finally rescued by AAS (Animal Advocates Society), even though the owner’s neighbours had phoned the Animal Welfare Agency (in this case, the Burnaby SPCA) many times, over many years. They were clearly upset at the lack of action or investigation. Eventually, in the dog’s last days, the Burnaby SPCA decided on the action it would do: offer $50 to the owners as an incentive if they take her in and have her killed.
Judas’ owners thought this was a good deal, so the time and date was booked. That’s when AAS became aware of her, through a disclosure deal they’ve made with many Animal Welfare Agencies who allow them to step in when an animal is on death row.
