If rumors were true, some years (199?) back a german company in the medical field wanted to sell us (cebu) a medical scanner (where the whole body was inserted into the machine). That time they only have 1 in manila. because our politicians wanted a "cut", the germans backed out and sold 3 of these machines in India.

@aulim: i also know of one japanese company that wanted to establish a motorcycle trading company (big bikes) in cebu. second hand and surplus units. but the customs were asking for too much 'balato' and they backed down, brought their business elsewhere.

High fuel prices is not really a problem if our income is high. that way, fuel cost only makes up a small percentage of our spending.

i also considered your post OT because you are not bringing anything to the discussion and instead redirecting the problem to your own personal grudge against the current administration.

i am also referring to Gloria because, as she was the last in the line of presidents before President Aquino, she is the latest metric by which we could measure corruption. and she set quite a record, i might add.

regarding taxation, yes it is bad but it is a source of funds for the government - which is a necessity if we are to have a government. please back read my previous posts. also, please post your calculations on just how much you think our gasoline payments increased because of taxes. if you are going to blame taxes, at least research and break down what you are talking about.

don't just echo the sentiments of people whose minds could possibly be lesser than yours but whose agenda certainly does not have your welfare specifically in mind.

i on the other hand am assuming that you are another simple consumer like me. not a millionaire, not a politician and no other agenda than to find a solution to the problems that plague me day to day and to secure a better future for me and the people around me. if you can accept this at face value, then i have something for you to think about:

the high price of gasoline cannot be blamed solely on taxation. common sense will tell you that, if it were the fault of taxation, then the problem of high fuel prices would only be localized here in our country. it is not. it is spread all over the world and the only countries who are immune are those who produce fuel themselves.

i'll grant you that taxes do increase the costs of fuel. but also consider that, were fuel prices lower in the world market, prices at the gas pump would be lower even with the taxes added.

now for something even more grandiose for you to think about.:

think about who profits when we limit our vision to what is just in our backyard.

think about who is benefited when all we do is whine about what's wrong with our government and our country but not help out.

think about who actually reaps the fruits of your constant bitterness and whining about the current administration. granted, some of those who are doing so online are being paid to do so but, just how short would their vision be of the future that they would accept payment now for destroying the country's already shaky confidence in itself and reap hell in the future?
