If I am an HR, I would have no obligation to tell the applicant the reason/s why he/she is not selected. Impression plays a big role in hiring an applicant. For example, there are 5 applicants that are equally qualified in terms of education, experience, scholastic records, etc., talks great during interviews, how would you select among them is by impression. attitude is a big factor to impressed an employer. if you are not selected because of some impression or an employer is much more impressed by the other employee, then there is no need to tell you that reason.

Attitude really matters. Please don't appear to be very demanding as it's a big turn-off to employers.

One time, i got pissed off with that line, after not hearing from them by the appointed time, i went to that company and asked for the person who interviewed me, then asked her why i wasn't hired. she told me, i'm sorry but i can't tell you that. i got bitchy with her (sorry to that HR person nalng... but i was so sapot with her answer! grrrr!)
if thats how lowly you react to the situation, if i am the hr, i would have told you it is the same attitude you are showing the hr that very moment why you were not hired. hehehe.

    peace.

I believe that each one of the applicant's has the right to know the reason. It's just unfair na mura kag paasahon lang. naa may ubang companies mo hatag sa ilang rason usually mga big companies ang nag practice ani. i don't know sa small companies kay ang uban hilas. Im sure na at the end of the day kapoy cla or unsa pana ang issues nila. pero that doesn't give them the right na mag abusar sa ilang position.

You go into a job interview thinking you are the best applicant and most qualified for the position. The interview goes both ways, they asses you, you asses them. They ask questions, you ask back. They asses if you are a fit, and you asses if you are a fit to them. YOU ultimately will guage and know if you are qualified or not. Wether they call you for a job offer is their prerogative, so as yours to accept. There is no obligation of either parties to give any reason why. So to answer the thread: as a proefessional individual, yes but as a corporate entity you applied to: No they are not obligated to tell you. Now ask yourself: who losses out in the end if you ask? You had all the opportunity to know during the interview.
