di-ara ang update oh.. tagaan nlng chance kay na-banned raba..

    Dwight Howard to Dallas?!?!

The Mavericks’ top offseason priority will be re-signing Tyson Chandler, the best big man in franchise history.

Unless they can land the best big man in the NBA.

That’s a topic of conversation today because of the bombshell dropped by ESPN’s Ric Bucher on SportsCenter. He reported that Dwight Howard’s short list of teams he’d want to be traded to includes the Nets, Knicks, Lakers … and the Mavericks.

All due respect to Chandler – and that is a ton, considering the massive tangible and intangible contributions he’s made to a title contender – but it’d be an absolute no-brainer for the Mavs to acquire a 26-year-old perennial All-NBA center if possible. Consider that an extremely slim chance, especially considering that the value of the Mavs’ best young trade chip (Rodrigue Beaubois) isn’t exactly soaring.

However, as noted by the boys on ESPN 103.3’s Ben and Skin Show, the fact that Howard is represented by Dan Fegan gives Dallas hope to get a deal done. The Mavs have an outstanding working relationship with Fegan, who also represents Jason Terry, Shawn Marion and Erick Dampier among others.

Just something to keep in mind once the lockout is lifted.

Now, back to the Chandler and the Mavs trying to win their first championship …

J.J. Barea accepts Andrew Bynum's apology

DALLAS -- Andrew Bynum tried to call J.J. Barea on Tuesday to apologize cell phone to cell phone. But all he got was Barea's voice mail, just like everybody else in the world who tried to reach the Dallas Mavericks backup point guard.

The hubbub started Tuesday morning when Bynum publicly apologized for his mid-air forearm shiver to Barea's ribs in the fourth quarter of the series-clinching Game 4.

"I had so many people calling me and texting me yesterday, my phone was on silence all day," Barea said after the Mavs' practice Wednesday. "I wasn’t really paying attention to it."

So Bynum left an apology via voice mail, one that Barea says was sincere and one he accepts.

"I believe him," Barea said. "He regrets fouling me. He regrets what he did. I think he means well and it’s just a mistake thatn can happen to anybody."

It was an act out of frustration. Barea was killing the Lakers during the series and particularly in Game 4 with numerous drives through the paint that had the Lakers yapping at each other and Bynum talking about "trust issues" on defense after Game 2 when Barea had eight points and two assists.

Barea said his ribs are slightly bruised and he has a bruise on his left hand from landing on it. But he said the hit won't stop him from playing his game and that means driving into the land of the giants and going hard to the hole.

"I’m going to keep driving and I’m going to keep getting hit," Barea said. "That’s what happens."

Dirk Nowitzki likes the quiet Mark Cuban

DALLAS -- There has been a partnership between Mark Cuban and Dirk Nowitzki for more than a decade. That’s the primary reason the Mavs’ superstar committed to four more years in Dallas after a long meeting at the owner’s mansion over the summer.

It sure is nice for Nowitzki when Cuban is a silent partner, though.

"It should be about the players, never about the owner," Nowitzki said after Wednesday’s practice. "We played a great series and fought hard and battled. That was fun. I haven’t really seen Mark since then, and that’s probably a good thing."

The media didn’t hear much from Cuban throughout the Mavs’ sweep of the Lakers, a surprise considering Cuban’s outspoken nature and previous wars of words with L.A. coach Phil Jackson and small forward Ron Artest. Cuban acknowledged that he made a concerted effort to avoid the spotlight during the series and indicated that’s his plan for the remainder of the playoffs.

"We believe," was all Cuban had to say when a couple of us waited him out in the Mavs’ locker room after the Game 4 rout.

After the 2006 Finals, when Cuban got slapped with a $250,000 fine for an anti-referee rant, Nowitzki strongly suggested that the owner’s controversial comments often work against the Mavs. But their relationship has always been close and has gotten tighter in recent years, in part because of Cuban’s role helping Dirk deal with the highly publicized personal problems that popped up during the 2008 playoffs.

Cuban has mellowed throughout the years, although Nowitzki attributes that more to the billionaire becoming a family man with obligations to his wife and three children. Cuban no longer makes every road trip. He rarely attends practices. He even occasionally misses home games, such as during his annual family vacation over the Christmas holidays.

And Cuban has steadily been much more careful with his comments criticizing the officiating, both to the media and directly to refs during games. "He picks his spots better," Nowitzki said. The fine totals have dropped drastically as a result in recent years, and the NBA even let Cuban get away without paying for pointing out a couple of calls he deemed incorrect in the Mavs’ last playoff loss, the Game 4 collapse in Portland that seems so long ago.

It is different for Cuban to go out of his way to avoid the spotlight, but one thing will never change about him.

"He still gets fired up during games," Nowitzki said. "He’s still a huge fan. Once the ball goes up, he’ s still in it with his heart."

Mavs paying close attention to other series

DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks got back to work Wednesday with a full-on practice. Homework comes later tonight when the Oklahoma City Thunder and Memphis Grizzlies hook up for Game 5 (8:30-ish).

    The guys are watching.

"Real close," center Tyson Chandler said. "I watch every game, do as much scouting as I can. You can scout both teams, but you don’t know which team you’ll be playing so you kind of just key into the game and watch how Memphis rolls, how Oklahoma City runs things. I guess we’ll see tonight maybe where you’re going to land."

The winner of Game 5 will hold the advantage. Game 5 winners go onto win the series 83 percent of the time.

Both teams will provide a bit of a changeup for the Dallas Mavericks, who can only wait and watch as they look to stay in rhythm for the start of the Western Conference finals either Sunday or Tuesday. The Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers were both older andless athletic teams than two battling it out in OKC tonight.

Here's how Mavs coach Rick Carlisle sized up the Thunder and Grizzlies.

"We know that next round whichever opponent it is we’re going to be dealing with a different kind of athlete; much more dynamic teams getting up and down the floor," Carlisle said. "So, we spent time on transition defense [at Wednesday's practice] and we’re going to have to take care of the ball next series. Both of these teams do a great job of ripping at the ball, creating turnovers. We can control a lot of the positive things defensively by being good and efficient offensively."

The Mavs, the No. 3 seed, will hold the homecourt advantage on either potential foe.

Nowitzki, who really loves this game like a fan and makes it a habit throughout the regular season to watch games on TV, said OKC and Memphis present different challenges.

"Oklahoma is a little more perimeter oriented, they have a lot of scorers on the perimeter, and Memphis likes to pound it inside and play inside-out," Nowitzki said. "But, I think whoever we are going to face we've got to be ready and play our game. We saw defensively that we [have to be ready] to battle inside like we did against the Lakers and be ready to move the ball offensively and make shots."
